Easily the best TV comedy around ATM IMO. New series this year.

Season 3 episode 2 rant in the taxi by Malcolm actually has me in stitches.

Only just seen this myself and haven't seen it elsewhere on here...

HBO are doing an American version of The Thick of It, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus playing the central role.

But there is good news! Tony Hale (Buster in Arrested Development) is also in it, and Armando Iannucci is going to be an executive producer, writer and director on the series.

    Very promising indeed.

    Link.

Oh well - I ended up loving the American version of The Office, so I'm sure this'll be good.

Interesting, HBO is probably the right network for it and with Iannucci still involved in a meaningful way, I have faith that it'll be decent.

Please don't use the delete button, think of the children.

The Thick of it returns this autumn

Fans of foul-mouthed comedy rejoice – political comedy The Thick of It is returning to BBC Two this autumn.
According to Chortle, the plotlines will revolve around a Leavesden-style enquiry, with the stories reflecting the political climate since the Tory-led Coalition took power.
Roger Allam will take centre stage as Secretary of State for Social Affairs Peter Mannion, with the show focussing on his clashes with Junior Minister in the Coalition Fergus Williams (Geoffrey Streatfeild).
Rebecca Front and Peter Capaldi will also be returning, with their characters Nicola Murray and Malcolm Tucker now in Opposition.
“This series takes The Thick of It into exciting and uncharted territory: a new Coalition Government, and Malcolm and Nicola fretting in the wings” creator Armando Iannucci explained.
“For the first time too a storyline takes us all the way through the series right to the bitter, bitter end, with Government and Opposition convulsed in an incident that questions every political convention imaginable, but in a funny way.”

    Wonderful.

Veep is pretty good but you can tell he's had to ever so slightly dumb down for the audience. Confident this will be full fat.

So... was anyone else a bit disappointed? The night editor of the Mail who's now in government and the coalition minister were a bit bleh. I don't think these characters were enough to really hold up an entire episode. There weren't the kind of insults and nicknames we're used to from Tucker et al ("Dennis Norden" raised a laugh, but it was pretty weak for The Thick of It), and I was really rather relieved to see they're back in the next episode.

I'm assuming after the next episode sets the scene for the new opposition we'll be cooking with gas and the episodes will flit between them. The show really needs them. They are, after all, the characters we're used to and Mannion et al were only really background characters until now. I don't think they're really good enough to take the spotlight.

Thought it was good tbh, felt like a primer for the fireworks though, remember this is a coalition so there are now three teams fighting each other instead of two so I feel this episode was needed to set that scene before we see the old team back. Great start.

Yeah, it was setting the scene really. I enjoyed it, there were some great bits but it was a bit flat compared to other series. Assume it will go up a notch once Tucker gets involved

Seeing as it's mainly setting up the new cast, it's understandable for the first episode to be a bit tame. At times it felt like there were too many characters.

Still some great quotes though. "She's a fart in a frock and I want her wafted out of here."

According to Iannucci, the plan for this seven-episode series goes: Coalition, Opposition, Coalition, Opposition, Everyone, Everyone, Everyone.

I thought the Lib Dems were a bit weak. And in the show etc etc.

Otherwise, still plenty of laughs. Definitely felt less dense than earlier episodes, though, like you could tune out for a while and not miss anything. Perhaps trying to ease people back in?

Just caught up with this week's. It was okay, I guess. Felt a bit weird.

Malcolm's description of Star Wars though :D

I thought this week's was excellent. My favourite of the series so far by a mile.

Plus points: Glenn being a hero, Fergus running, the whole storyline with the business bank, the camp Stuart takes Mannion to.

Minus points: The bit on the slide was a bit too silly and while the storyline with Tickle killing himself was very effective and well-written I think the show forgot it's a comedy for a moment.

Agreed, this weeks was great and shows how the new cast easily can carry the show on their own. The whole change in dynamic has made the show feel fresh. Phil is getting a little grating though.

    Peter Mannion is brilliant.
