I just wish it was on non-digital, I guess I'll have to spring for a digibox at some point.

Aarrgghh, forgot this was on. Caught some New Statesman last night so that makes up for it.

Anyone watched The New Statesman? If not, buy the Series 1-4 boxset off Amazon for £16.

Rik Mayall plays a Conservative MP during the 80s (their reign of power basically) and comes up with all sorts of twisted plans to get his own way. Mayall is perfect as Alan B'Stard.

"Oh really? The last time I saw something that white and flabby in a newspaper it had just been cooked in a deep fat fryer"

True but I hardly watch TV these days and I really would only watch a couple of programmes on BBC3/4, I've already got analogue cable so don't need it for anything else.

    Excellent!

    One of my favouriote comedies.

Very few people seem to know it around here.

    Season 1 is the best.

The ones I saw were the one with Victor Crosby and where B'Stard does the Tories election campaign (Well, half of that one). Fantastic!

"The Thick of It" is bloody good, fantastically written and acted.

    /Nods

Loves "The New Statesman", pity Mr Mayall has basiacally turned into his character :/

    A tory bastard? :-)

His latest show was reasonably good, too. But i think it would have much improved in a second series. 'Believe nothing' I believe it was called.

Easily the best show of the year so far.

Armando is probably the funniest Scottish/Italian man of all time.

Oh, just a small correction to the OP, the also excellent Curb Your Enthusiasm was on BBC4 (since snatched by E4 to be shown at 3 in the morning or something stupid, fecking idiots), although that obviously wasn't homegrown.

i missed the second episode, darnit. is it repeated over the weekend?

first episode was fantastic, and from what i gather that's the weakest in the series

Curb Your Enthusiasm is something I really enjoy as well. Only the seen episode 'Porno Gill' on BBC4, but I'd love to catch some more at some time. But at 3 in the morning? You're right, they are fecking idiots.

He fronted part of an anti-Europe advertising campaign by dressing up as Hitler and making out that it was another way of them taking us over :/

Great show. Definitely the best comedy since The Office.

Just in case anyone missed it, Episode 2 is repeated on BBC4 at 9.30pm on Saturday 28th.

40 quid for a box, plus hundreds of quid to get a man to go up to the roof and get the aeriel up there working.

It might just work on my indoor aerial, but I'm not willing for fork out 40 quid on the off-chance.

Nice bump, I'd forgotten this was on tonight :)
  • Deleted user 24 October 2009 21:29:19
Nice timing to bump this! I finished off the second half of series one, and both the specials yesterday, and am just taking a quick break from In The Loop for toilet visits and snacks.

    I washed my hands.
  • Deleted user 24 October 2009 21:30:38
Oh, and the film finishes in half an hour. Cracking timing. Meant to be. Destiny. All that stuff.

You suggesting that if it was the Malcolm Tucker show it wouldn't be as great? It's always been the Malcolm Tucker show, the rest is just for flavour ;)

I seem to remeber Chris Langham being the main focus at the begining and his replacment after that, Malcolm was always there but i can't remeber him having as much screen time as last night.

As you say tho, no bad thing.
