Although if we're listing our favourites I'd probably stick Mario 64 at the bottom. It was revolutionary when it first released but I don't think it's aged that well and it's not as fun to play as the others.

Didn't get on with either 3D Land and never tried World. But if it's taking it's roots from 64 then that's only good news.

i haven't played it since it come out on N64 but i spent countless hours looking for the stars in the starting area that it holds a special place in my heart.

I can agree with that, sometimes it's better not to revisit old games as the magic of nostalgia can be smashed to bits.

I dunno, I only played M64 on the 3DS and then the Wii VC and it's still top for me.

3D land is one of the best portable games ever. It's a superb applicaiton of mario for the portable format. Restrictions that suit the platform.

3D world is like an upgraded version of land but feels like it's hamstrung by those similar restrictions. It's got some great ideas but I always felt like the game was brushing up against the edges of itself whereas while Galaxy was a very structured Mario it felt so much more freeform and bursting with possibility - which doesn't make much sense but hey!

Also didn't help that world isn't a proper 3D game. 8 way movement indeed.

Something about Mario64 has never quite worked for me personally. Thereís something a bit cold about it somehow. I donít like the repetitive nature of the levels either.

Sunshine was both brilliant and awful. Mostly brilliant but there was some really shitty frustrating gameplay in there.

I like the Galaxy games best. It felt they knew the best bits of Sunshine were the boiled down non-FLUDD bits, and made a whole game out of pure little bite-sized Mario goodness. Could have done without the waggle though.

3D World is very good but perhaps ever so slightly phoned-in. After Galaxy it felt a bit safe and didnít really push things on as much as Iíd have liked.

I've never liked 64 either, but I put that down to not having played it when it came out. Have more problems with the controls than anything else. And because Spyro 2 is just an objectively better game and makes all other 3D platformers pale in comparison.

Sunshine my favourite. Tie after between 64 and Galaxy 1 for me. Haven't played the other 3D games.

Right. I've not played land then.

Er, probably not played much of world either really.

Tbh, the 3d thing irritates me. It's fucking hard enough getting it right in 2d. I just end up jumping off cliffs all the time in the 3d ones. Fucking progress, my arse

Galaxy has to be my favourite. I adored MK64 back in the day but I find it frustrating to play these days. Galaxy still plays great but of course it's nowhere near as old. I'm actually tempted to buy a Wii just for Mario Galaxy. These can be bought for peanuts now can't they?

My favourite is super mario world on the snes.

So many secrets to find. Which is why i love 3d world so much as it is a modernisation of one of my all time favourite games.

Pretty much 3d world is to mario world, what a link between worlds is to a link to the past.

In terms of 2D Mario's then my personal favourite is Super Mario Bros 3. I know Mario world played better but I just love the invention present in smb3. It felt like a massive leap from super mario bros and all the different power ups etc were great to use.

My favorite 2D Mario is Super Mario Bros 2. My favourite 3D Map is galaxy (closely followed by 3D World). They're nearly all exceptional games though.

I've preordered Mario with the cap on the Nintendo store. Does anyone know if they take paypal payments immediately or just before dispatch in October?

I just want to know if I need to leave the money in there for 3 months.

Cool. Thanks for letting me know. I will move the money elsewhere for a few months.

    Cheers.

Watched a playthrough on ign earlier. It does a much better job of showing off the game than the trailer which just left me a bit cold.

    @RobTheBuilder

Just have too many consoles and handhelds mate. Nowhere near enough free time to give them all attention so I sold my PS4, XB1, 3DS XL, Switch and psvr and returned to pc gaming. I really liked the switch and may buy another just for Odyssey.

To be fair a pc and Switch is a great setup that covers almost all gaming requirements (console exclusive aside). Plus even in the age of mobiles and tablets a pc is still super useful for getting 'serious' stuff done.
