A morbidly obese handyman and his adventures in a city just like the one you see every day.

Ostensibly released in 2017 but almost certainly delayed to 2018 and beyond.

I think I'm the only one who thought the idea of Mario in the real world was awesome.

It's not the real world it's still a computer game.

/see Mario running down the street ground pounding cats into gore.

Nah, massive missed opportunity to make Mario look like Bob hoskins for that level.

I don't get the fuss about the city bit, it looked like one level or world of many from the trailer.

It looks out of place but all of the other levels looked very much as you'd expect. There's no guarantee that the New York stuff will even appear in the finished game.

The city looks out of place as marios 'galaxy' has always been full of colour and vibrancy. But its the actual people that bug me the most, they look plain wrong next to mario. If they were their own species like in delphino for example i would prefer it but ideally id like them to scrap new donk city entirely.

I present as damning evidence of how few fucks anyone gives for this game: took a week for anyone to bother making a thread.

From all that I've seen of it I think it looks absolutely fucking awful. Doesn't interest me one bit.

I'm pretty sure people held back from creating specific threads until craigy created a Switch category. Too messy otherwise.

BUT THEY MADE MARIO DO A DANCE

  • Deleted user 19 January 2017 09:57:10
It looks like it might be a return to the more expansive levels of sunshine and 64, which would be nice. Pity I probably won't be playing it for five or so years.

After being such a prominent part of the trailer? Nah, it'll be in the final game - they've said the game will feature real-world locations, and the game's logo even has planet Earth in it!

I think the city itself looks fine - brings to mind the hub world from Mario Sunshine - it's just the people that look odd.

Do we know for sure what we're looking at in the trailer? Are these areas individual stages or are they sandbox areas that contain access to other stages (like Princess Peach's Castle in Mario 64)?

I'm not remotely fussed about seeing Mario in a more human environment, but there is something weird about seeing vehicles that belong to the 1970's an 80's driving around a city with civilians that belong to the 1930's and 40's.

All I hope from this game is that the more open style play doesn't impact what made the more recent games so great. I don't rate Mario 64 so highly anymore due to it's repetitive nature and slower-paced platforming. I've yet to play sunshine, but it doesn't appeal to me for the same reasons.

I much prefer the intensity of the Galaxy and '3D' games rather than the more slow-paced exploration approach of 64 and Sunshine.

Well, it's being discussed in the Switch thread but my God that gameplay and trailer for Odyssey looked so good.

I have a trip to Australia coming up at the start of November so the October release date is bloody perfect for me. Finally another proper Mario game after so long. So much to dissect from the trailer and even the gameplay. It looks really open like there are loads of smaller side quests and environmental puzzles etc.

Damn, I cannot wait. Definitely the best thing shown at E3 so far.

This looks very weird but also amazing. I loved the 3d to 2d transition stuff.

Love the latest trailer! Sheer madness and delight in equal measure. Even the incredibly bad music seemed to work brilliantly. Have watched the trailer 5 times now.

    Bring on October!
