    Why does PSN require upfront payment on preorders!?

    Yeah, this is where I am. It's definitely a nice-to-have, but I can't really get excited about it.

    Having said that, I'm still annoyed that 2097 never made it to PSN.
    2097 or Wip3out!

    Always assumed it has something to do with the licensed soundtrack.
    I'd take either! I suppose I could play both of them on the PS3, but I can't be arsed hooking that up again. It'd be so good to be able to play them on the Vita.

    Apparently PSN pre-orders also get an additional ship

    I'd rather have a physical copy (I like boxes), but the theme and extra ship is really pushing me to order online, even if I do have to pay for it now...

    @Flying_Pig could you 'preorder' it on the day before release maybe?

    Yeah it should say in the description how long the preorder is available for.

    @Flying_Pig You won't the theme until the game is out anyway!

    @FuzzyDucky - yeah so I understand :(

    I think I'll stick with a physical version then...

    Anyone know where the LE steel book can be preordered?

    I also noticed that some retailers (i.e Game) are saying that you still get the themes if you preorder the physical game with them...

    Apparently the source code for the original games has long since been lost, so they just keep remastering the psp ones.

    Yes, that "IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED" thing on all PSN pre-orders is really annoying.

    It didn't used to work that way. Back when I pre-ordered "Salt & Sanctuary" (March 2016) the pre-order system worked in a more "normal" way, i.e. you pre-ordered the game and they didn't take the money from your PSN wallet (or whatever payment method you had set up on your PSN account) until a day or two before release. Not sure why they changed the way pre-orders work, but all pre-orders seem to be of the "immediate payment required" variety now.

    As another commenter said, if you don't want to drop the money now for a game that's still months away from release, the best thing to do is just remember to "pre-order" it shortly before release. IIRC, it's a "pre-order" right up to 11:59pm the day before release.

    I noticed last night it was the Steelbook. I've just cancelled mine though to go digital instead, not just for the extras but I realised this isn't one I'm likely to trade in and would rather not bother with the physical stuff and disc switching.

    Tempted go digital on this as I have an Argos voucher that'll expire, so might just buy PSN credit.

    Also, if I buy the disc it's never coming out of the console.

    That was my thinking exactly, this is something I want to be able to jump into whenever, on a whim.

    I know it won't happen, but I would have palpations if it involves the number "2097"

    I know the music licensing is what is stopping them re-releasing 2097 and 3 as PS1 classics or remasters, but there is no fucking excuse for not doing a DLC pack with all the circuits :(

    So hopefully it's that. It's a fucking no brainer, that honestly should've happened for WipEout HD.

    @IronGiant oh god please yes.

    I've been banging on about wipeout VR for what seems like years. The dev comments which nixxed the idea were hugely disappointing. Hoping that Thumper, Trackmania, and Dirt Rally will have changed their minds somewhat.

    I was playing Wipeout Fusion in VR on my HMZ-T1 on PS3, that was awesome. No headlook though, but the 3d... Wow!

    It's the only way I played after getting the hmd.

    @SomaticSense Can't they just do a new soundtrack? Why would music licensing issues prevent them rereleasing the games? Unless each musician has rights to the actual code? I don't get it.

    I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the big problems with remastering the early games/tracks is that the physics and handling are actually very different from the later games. Presumably that would make some previously brilliant tracks not quite as brilliant as we remember.

    Still hope it'll get done though.

    With regards a full on remaster or DLC expansion, you're right. For re-releasing the PS1 versions that would be a bit tougher and probably not worth it.

    @Ghibli

    It works for Mario Kart. They'd have to rebuild them in the new engine anyway so a straight copy/paste wouldn't even be possible, so they'd just make the necessary adjustments.

    Besides, that excuse doesn't wash when we had recent games made with a different engine with different physics (was it the PSP games or Fusion?) that used 2097/3 tracks in Zone modes.

    It would certainly make an excellent package if they did include the tracks from all the Wipeout games. VR mode would be icing on the cake.. on their twitter someone asked if they were going to make a new Wipeout game, the response was maybe if enough of us buy this one! :)

    For some reason, I was under the impression this was digital-only. I've just gone and pre-ordered the steelbook version from ShopTo.

    It is a game I'd be tempted to have on the hard drive, ready to go whenever, but it's wipEout. I need a physical copy.

    Ooooh.

    New ship.

    Never going to beat my Icaras though ;)

    Edit: saying that... It looks like a beast. I could have a new Time Trial contender...
