Wipeout is designed to be played with digital inputs, d-pad and L1/R1 all the way! |
No idea how anyone plays with the stick in particular.

I might switch to the dpad after these comments, but analog inputs for the airbrakes are undoubtedly useful for ships with looser handling. Sometimes I have to ease onto the airbrake to nail a long turn, sort of like a drift.
Though, I imagine holding the nose up/down would be harder while turning if you use the dpad.

I've been using analog sticks, seems fine to me. With floating ships it feels natural.
Whoever chose the colour palette of Wipeout 2048's Zone A+ section needs a dead arm.
It's nigh-on impossible to see anything with a white track and ALL RED EVERYTHING FUCKING ELSE.
Lol sounds like someone has been having fun I just can't get on with Zone mode at all, not a fan of it in the slightest.
Jumped back on this myself last night after I got distracted playing Dirt 4 for a couple of weeks, I was right back to being rubbish at it for a few races before I started to get my groove back. I unlocked the 2097 HUD option which was not even a thing I knew existed!
@ModoX I've been doing the Wipeout 2048 A+ challenges, and then trying to Elite Pass the remaining zone races when I get too mad at AI.
I honestly think I'm getting RSI.
Managed to beat the Zico time on 2048 last night. Very happy with myself.
Still can't do it on HD though. Just can't nail the barrel roll on the tiny bumps.
Nice, I daren't even attempt any of those, I'm nowhere near that skill level.
@ModoX Think it took me 60 laps on Downtown. The 2048 one is just a case of nailing your driving line, and barrel rolling when you're in the air.
It's sounds really tough, but just jump in the Feisar Speed, go a few laps getting a feel of the course, and you'll slowly start nipping milliseconds off your Ghost.
It's just a case of shaving time here and there. No clever tricks needed.
HD's Zico lap though, has a really REALLY finickity double barrel roll boost on some tiny little bumps. Pain in the bum.
I DID IT. FUCK YOU ZICO, YOU BROKE MY THUMBS.
@Ceelion Well played!
I was 0.07 of a second off it last week, been inspired by yourself to try again later!
I still need to get round to actually finishing the campaigns. I won't try Elite passing everything, just clearing all the events then I'll enjoy some time trial.
I'm not sure I really want your ridiculous times making me feel bad, but do add me and I can have a long term goal at least
@FuzzyDucky It took me ages to perfect the double barrel roll in the middle of the lap. That sucked. Did it on lap 80.
Also, just a heads up, I did it without barrel rolling onto the thin platform at the end as well. Just 4 boost pads, barrel roll off and land on the last boost pad on the bottom route. I BELIEVE IN YOU!
@ModoX I'll add you when I get in. I'm by no means a great racer, just hammer the same track over and over and over to get my times down hah.
Is this worth grabbing? I have only played the vita version of the 3 and seen it for 20 quid
@damagedinc I think everyone in here loves it, so we're a bit biased
But it's chock full of content, looks and runs beautifully. If tight arcade racing is your buzz at all, it's a steal at that price.
@Ceelion Hot damn! No barrel roll onto the overpass you say... I'm off today, so the console is on, Orbital are playing and my palms are getting sweaty...
@Ceelion ZICO HD BE GONE!!!
Beat it by all of 0.01 of a second. Ended up doing the barrel roll onto the overpass. Not as good as my time on the PS3 version, but it's done!
Now, to check out Beat Zico 2048...
@FuzzyDucky WOO WOO!
I found 2048 to be WAY easier than the HD one. No tricks, just nailing the lines
@damagedinc For £20 you'll get hours of enjoyment... if arcade racers are your bag that is.
In other Ceelion's attempts to clear Wipeout news, I've just finished up all the 2048/49/50 A+ challenges.
Now I've just got three pesky zone races to do and I'll have finished everything bar trophy hunting.
That platinum will be mine. Oh yes it will.
@Ceelion Thank you kindly!
Well I got to within 0.5 of a second of the 2048 one, not bad considering Anulpha Pass is muscle memory by this stage and I barely know Downtown.
Think I'll be doing barrel rolls in my sleep, so will crack on again tomorrow
@Ceelion Saucy going with the A+ challenges, I suck at them. I did have a lovely run on Sol, only to fall off the track on the 9th lap /o\
@FuzzyDucky I found Sol to be the easiest one when it came to AI. As you said, it's all about staying on the track. I lost the first two tries by falling off the stage. Third time I nailed it.
@Ceelion What ship do you use for the A+ stuff? Feels like Feisar Speed and Prototype are the only viable ones.
@FuzzyDucky I thought the Feisar prototype would be the one to use, but I quickly learnt it was putting me at a massive disadvantage at the beginning of each lap when you lose all your speed.
The Feisar Speed really is the only way to go to keep up with the AI.

I finally got the platinum trophy.
I feel truly transcendent.
And 100% Wipedout.

Well done, awesome achievement!
@Ceelion Damn, I thought as much in fairness. Prototype works good for some of the earlier races, but can see why it's no good for the A+ ones.
Got to 0.2 of Beat Zico 2048 last night, the poor visibility of the boost pads has tripped me up a bit.
Congrats on the Platinum, some going!
