2048 is pretty good on the vita. zone mode is worth the price of admission alone. however the slick design isn't there since they parted ways with the designers republic (after wipeout 3/wip3out), which makes it all look a bit generic.

Because one racing game doesn't support it?

It's been out for 3 months and has around 40 compatible games. It's probably a little early to be writing it off, especially considering VR is actually thing on other platforms.
As myself and others have said, Wipeout is perfect for it, but no show.

Kinect had a similar size clutch of games (because they sell it on the promise of "look of all the games". None of these are exactly life affirming stuff. Where's the glut of releases down the road? It's an expensive peripheral (not for the tech you're getting, but it's pocket change) and you obviously need a PS4 to run it. At least Kinect wasn't gimped on the base 360, unlike PSVR.

PSVR, yours for a packet of Worcestershire Sauce Walkers in a car boot sale, three years from now.

Redout is coming to PS4 and supports VR on PC so that might give you a similar fix at least.

It's still one game. A game that doesn't have a big studio behind it anymore either. Who's porting it? Can they handle the work that VR would require to get the entire game working at blistering speed on the headset?

Where are the glut of releases down the road? Well, they're down the road. Sony said there were "more than 230 dev building content". There's a list of stuff on Wiki though I don't know how many games are actually there.

This'll be the one that I upgrade my ps4 for.

Well, depending on what it ends up like, and how much mote fidelity I get.

4k HDR and 60 fps will pretty much seal it for me.

And while everyone is talking about psvr... Every release should have psvr support or its not worth it.
  • Deleted user 5 December 2016 16:05:41
Sounds cool, but I'm not sure if it's worth it for me.

I still have my disc copy of Wipeout HD on PS3, that runs just fine at 1080p 60fps, I don't play online, and I don't have a 4K TV.

Wipeout 2048 will be the big decider, but I have it on Vita already.

Think I'll pass on this, would be the third time Id be whizzing around these tracks after the psp and ps3 versions. If only they had a development studio capable of creating a new game with a few new ones.

Sure it will look ace though.

Makes me a little sad that they shuttered psygnosis/studio liverpool knowing(probably) that they'd be making future iterations with other devs.

Had a look at the demo footage - it really doesn't look that great to me. Seems to have no sense of speed - the speedometer says 500 km/h, but it just looks slow. I've only played Wipeout 2097, and that felt fast and fun! And the graphics might be in 4k 60fps, but with not much image quality.

One thing wipEout has never struggled for is a sense of speed, so I'm sure it'll be fine when you're actually playing it.

To be fair, it does say dynamic 4K, so it'll be using checkerboard rendering. We'll just have to see how it holds up in (very fast!) motion, I guess. Looks like wipEout to me, though! It's always looked clean and sleek, and continues to do so here.

As an aside, I won't be playing it in 4K anyway, as I've no interest in the Pro. 1080/60'll do me fine :)

I did originally think WipEout would be perfect for VR but after playing Thumper and Rez I'm not so sure, at the higher speeds it would melt your brain :)

The big, in fact huge difference, between Kinect and VR is that VR actually works and gives you an incredibly immersive gaming experience. The original Kinect was a poor attempt to jump on the Wii band wagon.. the majority of the games at release for Kinect were abysmal, do you not remember! VR is here to stay and the tech will continue to improve and the headsets eventually go wire free etc.

Just played Rez for the first time in VR, utterly fantastic.

I liked wipeout as much as the next person back in 2097 but I'm not arsed for another. What I would like though is another rollcage as I found it more fun. Where the fuck is that Sony?

Well Psygnosis were only the publisher of Rollcage, so I'm not sure where that leaves the IP in a modern context.

The announcement of Omega Collection inspired me to re-purchase a 2nd hand Vita and start playing again! The only trophies I didn't get the first time were the multiplayer ones. Surprisingly there are still people playing the online! Not many, but some. Maybe the announcement has triggered a Renaissance?

As much as it is great and I'm going to buy it, it's such a shame it's just a remake. A new WipEout with a high budget could be something very special.

I'm not sure I do enough speed these days to make full and proper use of a new wipEout.

Yeah, this is where I am. It's definitely a nice-to-have, but I can't really get excited about it.

Having said that, I'm still annoyed that 2097 never made it to PSN.

Preorder themes generally only unlock when the game unlocks. Meaning you'll have to wait until release.

Yes it is stupid as fuck.

    2097 or Wip3out!

Always assumed it has something to do with the licensed soundtrack.

    Nice.

Really hope they keep the campaign structure from 2048, that was loads of fun.

Would it be too much to ask to tone down the rubberbanding in HD/Fury? Playing it on Elite difficulty was zero fun.
