Hope it's not going to be too expensive. I bought HD, Fury and 2048 at launch. Sucks that I can't just play those anymore. Well, at least HD and Fury.

Could someone do me a favour and actually tell me what it is, please? I can't watch videos right now and all the mobile version of the site shows is a YouTube link. Ta :)

@DFawkes remastered versions of Wipeout HD, Fury and 2048. Running at 1080p60, with 4K support for Pro players, and new music tracks too. Coming summer 2017.

@DFawkes Remake of the Wipeout 2048 / HD / Fury collection for the PS4.

So they're rereleasing the remakes of the classic Wipeout tracks, again.

I mean, maybe they should have kept Liverpool around to actually make new maps rather than endlessly remastering the same classics.

So did Sony realise this IP/genre still had legs before or after they shut down Studio Liverpool?

    :(

Cheers all :) It always seemed a shame to me they let the franchise die, and pretty much killed the parents too to ensure they don't reproduce. Does this sort of racer just not sell anymore? Even Nintendo and their love of sequels hasn't given us an F-Zero in yonks.

Good news there'll at least be a remaster collection for now. Better than nothing, and it should look lovely.

@DFawkes to be fair, I think futuristic racers haven't sold well in ages. Pretty much since the PS2 days.

Hope this does well and they start trying to commission a new original Wipeout

Yeah, this is bittersweet as fuck.

I'm in because it's Wipeout and HD Fury and 2048 were spectacularly good, but it must be frustrating to be a former Studio Liverpool dev right now to see Sony bigging up the franchise like that.

Fucking great news! Genuinely didn't know there was a Sony event last night and I wake up to all this, bloody hell.

While this is indeed very nice to have (I fucking love wipEout, and 2097 would easily make it into my top 10 games of all time), I saw a lot of "OMG THANK YOU BASED SONY!" posts in the GAF thread for this that it just made me a little bit angry.

Still, day one, even if it is just a bunch of stuff I've already played to death.

Out of interest, why can't you play them anymore?

GAF lose their shit about Crash Bandicoot remasters. There is no saving some of them.

That said, Wipeout in 4k or w/es will look uber.

True. But it's less about them losing their shit over remasters and more about them OMG THANK YOU-ing Sony for re-releasing content we've all played before, having shut down Psygnosis and apparently killing off the franchise. I can't thank them for that.

There's the argument that high demand for this could bring the series back to life (which I think is one hell of a longshot), but who would even develop it?

@Fourfoldroot a bit of a mess that happened years ago. Got most of my living room apparatus fried by lightning. Thanks to a recent spending spree, almost everything was still under warranty - which I guess shouldn't cover accidents like this, but they don't usually ask any questions here - so I managed to get away without really paying anything.

Unfortunately the PS3 wasn't among those things under warranty, and repairing it would have cost almost as much as buying a new one. I said, screw it.

(the PS2 neither, but somehow it survived just fine. I swear old consoles are so damn reliable)

I can't see that there'll be a sudden spike in demand. These aren't new games - they're old games (featuring older source material) being repackaged and resold to a small but very dedicated fan base.

It's a shame that this is yet another recycling of existing material and not a brand-new set of tracks - and, if it had to be recycled stuff, it's a shame that it doesn't homage the entire series by incorporating "best of" tracks from across all of the Wipeout games - y'know, like WipEout 3 Special Edition did for the series' PS1 era.

But, heck, at this stage I'll take what I'm given "futuristic racer"-wise and be grateful for it! And at least the 2048 content will be "new to me", because I don't have a PS Vita and so never got to play it.

If you haven't played 2048 you are in for a genuine treat, nest game on the series since Wip3out.

As much as I love HD/Fury (it's probably my most played game last gen, bar none), the rubberbanding of the AI broke it. You could nail a rave of perfect laps and still be stuck in last place without seeing the rest of the field. Plus one or two tracks had those spots if you clipped them at the right angle, you'd be catapulted a mile into the air.

Article confirms on the front page there's no VR support for this. I though t this would have been perfect for it.

PSVR is shaping up to be the Kinect of 2016.

I keep reading the title as WipEout Omegle Collection.

Which would be WipEout, but with a random dude wanking on webcam displayed in the bottom corner of the HUD.

So you've already handed over money for it yet don't know if it's even being made still?

    Modern consumerism, ladies and gents!

I don't read my emails that often, same with the Friday 13th game

Can't help but think this is a total dick move shutting down Studio Liverpool then reviving the series so soon after.

I'm baffled this isn't vr? If there ever was a game that was made for vr surely it was this

Because one racing game doesn't support it?

It's been out for 3 months and has around 40 compatible games. It's probably a little early to be writing it off, especially considering VR is actually thing on other platforms.
