I am aware that there is already an 'official' BF2 thread, but I felt that as we near the release of this GOTY candidate, a new and more compact thread was required.

This thread will include links to previews, reviews and screenshots as and when people find them (I will update regularly).

I have high hopes for BF2 and believe that it could be one of the best games seen on any format.

It does look good from what I've seen. I just hope my system can handle it.

Yea, any real consensus emerging about what specs will be needed to run it decently? We talking more HL2 or Doom3 specifications?

To run it 'decently' I would say you are looking at a PIV 3.0GHz +, Radeon 9800 o(or more, ideally) and 1GB of ram.

Anything less than this, and you might have a less than satisfactory experience.

I am looking forward to it.

I'm hoping they can build on the infantry combat further - BF:V was a definate improvement over 1942, but it still wasn't quite there.

Taken from the gamespot hands-on preview:

The game looks beautiful, and the graphics engine delivers a world that's on par with that seen in Half-Life 2. But it's even more amazing since the levels are so much larger with so many players going around and doing different things. You are going to have so much fun with this game. We lost count of the number of times someone ran over an infantryman or how the rag-doll physics made bodies flop to the ground in fun ways. We saw a helicopter flying just a few feet above a tank that was rolling down the highway, kicking up the dust. It was just so cinematic to look up and see the silhouette of the chopper dominating the sky. We could go on, but you get the point. This game is going to be awesome.

If screenies like this are any indication of the quality of the visuals I will be very happy.

Edit: Clever thread by the way. If only all official threads were this helpful, e.g. with links to previews/reviews etc..

I take it you've seen my insanely great Half Life 2 thread!? :D

Got my copy of PC ZONE this morning. There is a substantial hands-on preview of BF2 contained within ! Below, are some choice excerpts:

BF2 honestly feels like it's setting a whole new benchmark for online multiplayer shooters

Incredibly impressive visuals ... detailed texturing bringing to life the world of combat in a way second only to HL2

all the classic feelings are there intact

    Sounds good !

Demo will probably be the Gulf of Oman map, which PC ZONE had the opportunity to play (featuring USA versus MEC forces).

    Lavverly.

Oddly enough I had this preordered (what feels like) aeons ago. Now I'm strangely not that excited but I think I'll cancel the preorder, wait for the demo and the reviews.

I've just watched some of the gameplay videos, what's with bodies being catapulted 70ft in the air, I thought it was set on earth?

I just hope the shooting is as accurate as in BF1942. If it's like anything like the Counter Strike shooting accuracy, forget it.

Eh ? Have I been transported to some weird parallel universe where BF1942 bullets actually registered as hits ?

If you'd taken a direct hit from a 40mm tank shell, thats how far bits of you would fly too... ;)

I'd be more concerned why a tank was using something so small?

Hopefully the silly physics can be turned down as a server option, I know some people like it but I think it's just stupid.

    hehe.

Actually, I'm so back into console gaming and LIVE that I havent got any time for PC gaming at the moment.

That Ghost Recon 2, for instance, was brilliant fun the other night. I hope we can have a few more games this week?

You can tell I know bugger all about tanks! I should've said .50 cal and I still wouldn't even be sure that was right either ;)

Abrams and Challengers (in fact most modern tanks) use 120mm shells, that hits a person there's not enough of anything left (identifiable at least) to actually fly into the air!

Still this is looking lovely and my subs copy of PCZ should be home when I get there, unless I've forgotten to renew. Hmm...
