@THFourteen click your ball at the bottom, then tap pokemon. After that there is a list down the side by which you can sort.

I hatched a snorlax this morning

I'm not sure if this is the culmination of a childhood dream or the end times.

Next thing you know will be people dressing up dogs in Pokemon costumes and forcing them to fight.

So am I right in thinking gyms are entirely pointless for anyone who doesn't play 15 hours a day? The one a few metres from my flat is held by Pokemon with CPs of 500+ so nothing I have has a hope of even making a dent in them.
  • Deleted user 19 July 2016 09:50:09
@Rivuzu Hypno is a good one for powering up, plentiful candy around for him. He's my strongest too.

@kinky_mong You're wrong. I only play about an hour, two hours a day when I'm going to/from work. And most of that is on the train.

As soon as you hit level 10, which is really fast if you focus on evolving commons (Pidgeys are worth their weight in gold for the XP you get) and hatching eggs, and timing both of these things to happen when using a Lucky Egg (to give you double XP) - you'll be catching anything up to CP800.

Gyms are never held for long though. I went out at the weekend on a dog walk, stopped by a Gym and met a few other Valour players. We smashed the local gym, and trained it up to Level 7 so we could hold 7 Pokémon in it.

I check a half hour later, Mystic had taken it over.

    :D

The way it works is for each Pokémon defeated in a Gym, you take it's "Prestige" down by an amount. Take it down enough, it de-levels. Each level allows it to hold +1 Pokémon. When you go into a Gym fight against a rival team, you can take 6 Pokémon with you - so yes, even if your opponent is using a CP600 Growlithe, it is totally possible to take it down using a bunch of CP300 Pidgeys.

Plus, if you get good with dodging, it's possible to take down another Pokémon without ever being hit. My Persian is the only thing I have with Dark attacks, so I use it vs Psychic as it's the only type of attack that's super effective against them. Problem is my Persian is only CP650, and the Gym at the station last night had a CP900 Hypno. I dodged like a mother fucker and only lost half my health by the time I toppled him.

So yeah, tl;dr, you're wrong and shouldn't give up hope. Plus gym fights aren't really the be all and end all of the game, but even at a lower level they're doable and fun.

@Pinky_Floyd My area is lowsy with Drowzee's. Luckily that was evolved from a CP550 Drowzee.

I'm just coming up to half way towards my Gyarados as well. Jesus Christ I've never wanted a Magikarp this badly in any of the games.

Level 18 though, so I'll be catching stuff a bit above. Lowest Ratatta I've seen recently was 230ish.

The other good thing about hatching eggs is that whatever pokemon hatches tends to come with a load of candy.
  • Deleted user 19 July 2016 12:26:31
My best so far is a 345 Golbat and a 308 Electabuzz :(

At least the latter is a bit rare, but then so is candy so he's not gonna be much use in the long run.

@Rivuzu Christ. I doff my cap to thee. If you're out and about levelling up doesn't take as long as I imagined, I went from level 4 to just under 8 this weekend with a few car trips and a walk along the beach so it's been steady and I haven't been going out of my way to go places. Does it stay the same when you get to double figures?

I hope you all enjoy your last day with PGo anyway. It's been released in Japan tomorrow...

@the_milkybar_kid guy in work has had the application for 3 weeks he says and he's level 20 and needs 50,000xp to get to 21, so I think its a serious grind eventually.

Yup, it's getting grindy, but not so bad.

I'm Level 19 now (just dinged, woo!) and I've been using the same tactics to fast-level. Cheap evolutions timed w/ about 6 egg hatching and using a lucky egg for double XP.

1-10 is faster than 11-20, and the XP barriers per level will steadily rise. Heard horror stories that Level 30 is 500k of exp. whelp.

I have been playing since the US launch mind you.

    Help please!
Noob question, but I e just started and went to a gym. As I understand it you are supposed to be able to select multiple Pokemon so that when one falls the next enters. However, it's only letting me select one. M sure I'm missing something simple but can someone explain what I need todo?
    Thanks

Wish I e was, so much easier to hit for greats and excellents than are the bloody pigies and weedles

Hatch Pokemon. Just put it in an incubator and walk 2,5 or 10k depending on the egg.

    @Fourfoldroot

If the gym is the same colour as you then you select a single Pokemon to train at the gym instead of a team of 6 to conquer it.

Does the app have to be open whilst you're walking? Got a couple of eggs on the way in to work this morning and both are still showing 0k walked.

Thanks so much, I thought I was going crazy!
Seems obvious now, but the lack of a tutorial for certain parts of this game is baffling.

Yes it does. And you can't go above s certain speed or it doesn't count, so vehicles don't count (I supposed a slow role down a hill on a bicycle might lol).

@Rivuzu Where are you getting lucky eggs from?

As far as I can tell you need coins to buy them, which are only earnt by having a Pokemon hold a gym (or buying them with real money), which requires lots of levelling to get a Pokemon good enough to take a gym, and thus the uphill struggle for people who joined late gets harder.
