Just about to do the Nurbugring GP race, expecting a pile up at the first corner and not much else.

Is there any point to these FIA Championship races. Did anyone get anything at the end of the season?

no, didn't receive anything other than the standard credits and mileage points at the end of each race. I quite like the structure though, quali session at start, longer races and championship format.

I was surprised that they've gone straight into a 2nd championship. The current schedule is too intensive plus it's drawing numbers away from the daily races. It's a test season so hopefully it'll be adjusted for the season proper.

They could do with extending the times a couple of hours either way and longer at weekends.

Offering more start times could spread the numbers too thinly and have a negative effect on matchmaking. Getting everyone on at the same time means a bigger pool of players.

Thatís true although hopefully the numbers can support a few extra time slots. Numbers will drop off though so itíll be interesting to see how they handle it when they need multiple ratings to make up a grid. So far I generally only see the same SR but 1 or 2 levels faster DR (in the later slots).

So you can't take place on the GT4 race today unless you own the lamborghini.

Yeah tried to do it earlier. It's down as single make with the lambo, and it just takes you to your empty garage if you don't have it.

Iím a bit late to this, but blimey itís good isnít it. For what little content there is, thereís a hell of a lot to get stuck into. Racing online so far has been superb, with only the odd Spaniard or Frenchy using me as a cornering aid. Feels great on a pad. Cars sound awesome too!

Only thing I will say is they need to nerf those damn GT3 spec Beetles! Or even better, get rid of them completely. Nothing like lining up on a GT3 grid with Hurracans, GTRís, 650Sí etc only to find the top spots are taken up by frickin Beetles! Beaten a couple with the 10,000rpm Toyota (love that thing) but in the hands of a decent driver, very difficult to beat.

Had a great race around Brands last night. Good close racing, no ramming. Hopefully the standard will keep improving over the coming weeks.

@jimmac Yeah, I had a great set of races on Brands and Suzuka over the weekend. My favourite moment being a successful pass down the inside of First Curve at Suzuka - I pulled alongside down the straight, we went in to the Curve with my nose just ahead and we ran the remainder of the corner with centimeters between us but no contact - pulling that off was exhilarating.

Conversely i had the usual divebombs form nowhere at Nurburgring.

I do wish that these test Championships had some sort of thankyou / reward. It's a heavy commitment to do even one, let alone both.

Suzuka pisses me off (though I do love it). I'm really quick through the last half of the course but I just can't get any pace through the opening 6 or 7 corners. And the amount of times I lost it on spoon corner trying to push it too hard nearly had me kicking the shit out of my TV.

The biggest 'tip' that I can give for the first sector is to ensure you exit the S curves into the degnas properly. That means from the exist of the S curves you should be throttle full on until the deceleration zone for Degna 1.

Making that line work can expose you on the exit of the S curves though as you may need a slight lift to get far enough right, so just be careful. Once you're on the power you'll drag clear though.

Had another enjoyable Sport race at lunch. However, the rating system is bizarre. It was the short Japanese track. 4 or 5 laps. I started 10th on the grid (because I don't have time to sit there for an hour trying to get a decent quali time). Finished in 8th. Clean race bonus.

DR rating has gone down and i'll be down to E soon. Very odd system.

Not sure about the Honda concept car in race B today. The back end is all over the place.

Yeah I've just had a go at that one, really need to apply the brakes for some turns where you'd get away with lifting in some of the other cars.

I got a mix of driver ratings from B all the way down to E in the race. Still got a neutral SR though despite all collisions being the other drivers fault.

Just done the daily on Seaside Trail. Didn't have enough time to do some decent qualifying laps. Started 17th got all the way up to 3rd and racked up 20 odd seconds of penalties for people smashing into me and then running off the track... Finished 8th.

I complain about it so often I start to think it must be me but watching back the replays it's other people dive bombing or just turning into me when I have the line.

Unrelated but I find putting the brake bias a couple of notches to the front really helps steady the GT3 cars under hard braking. Are there any disadvantages to it?

I've tried fiddling with brake bias but never found it to make much difference. In theory you might increase braking distance if you're not effectively using all four wheels to brake but I think in the grand scheme of things it probably doesn't make much difference unless you're already on the limit of everything else.

Thanks to @McGeeza for hosting some fun racing last night. I couldn't chat cos the wife was sitting about 3 feet away watching TV. The jet engine fans from the PS4 and fans in the wheel are already bad enough.

I had some more good Lambo Hurracan races during the day as well, that's a pretty good car to drive. I thought it would be all twitchy and horrible but it was really nice and smooth.

The Merc on the other hand is a barge with wheels, never again.

@jimmac Apologies for nearly taking you out on the last corner of dragon trail twice!

Enjoyed the Interlagos race. Would have had you if the race was 50 yards longer :)

@mcgeeza No worries. It's just for fun. People approach corners at very different speeds/angles when learning cars and tracks and until you've raced them a few times it's difficult to avoid the odd prang. Once we've had a bit more time at all the tracks we'll all get better.

I really struggle with the reverse tracks and it takes quite a few laps to "get" them but I ended up really enjoying yesterdays reverse with the Hurracan.

I've tinkered with the brake balance but always find it is slightly worse after so I leave it as it is on most cars.

Here's a compilation of 5 small collisions from the race I was mentioned above. I received 10 second penalties for the last 2 and I personally think that neither overtake was on for the other drivers, maybe I'm wrong but I don't think either should have been punished.

How are you changing the view in replays like that? It only lets me pick two camera modes?

R1 to change to whatever angle you want and then I'm using L1 to look behind.

@Decks Anything other than 50% will extend braking distance, front bias means the front wheels need to do more work for brake and steer - so you'll understeer if braking too late.

reverse is true for rear brake bias. i tend ot run -2 rear

Does that not unsettle the back end when trail braking?
