Call of Pripyat might be alright, it's probably the most polished Stalker game. I use 'polished' as a relative term, obviously. I'll give 'em a shot once I've survived the weekend.

@neems is that a regular shot or a VorpX shot?

    @Rusty_M

VorpX - in many ways it's a curio, through no fault of its own. The tech is pretty good, but most games just don't really support VR effectively. Borderlands 2 has the full head tracking and stereoscopy, looks really impressive, but it's just a bit of a mess to move and especially shoot. I would imagine Stalker would have similar issues, only amplified by the bizarre controls and weighty shooting.

On the plus side, VorpX has a very good cinema mode. If you bring it right in close you can have a sort of pseudo VR, especially if the game supports 3d.

Im getting towards needing a new system, I dont really care for AMD cards as I find the drivers a fucking hassle.

So dont know whether to go for a 1080 or is there a titan equivalent coming as well?

Can't wait for these to hit. Currently limping along on an old Phenom II and 560Ti. Going to be building a whole new PC. Still not sure which card to go for but I'm tempted by the 1080.

I meant the 1080 equivalent Titan, i.e. the next level Titan. I get water cooled systems so changing cards is a ballache, so like to have best single card.

Still, It works out at something like 500 for a 10fps bump for a year. But I guess they will make one.

Didn't they announce it first? I'm sure they announced something in Pascal before the 10 series dropped.

Ah, Tesla P100, probably not what you're looking for.

The old Titan is turning out to be an amazing marketing tool anyway. It has been built up to such mythological status that they're able to make their "faster than a BILLION TITANS!" claims, which are easy for people to understand and save them having to find an AMD card to compare themselves with.

It'd be silly to undermine that just yet.

This is where the next gen of cards are apparently flopping out to be.

    AMD left - NVid right

    We are here:
    370 - 950
    380 - 960
    390(x) - 970/980
    Fury Nano - 980
    Fury X - 980Ti/TX

    We are moving here:
    470 - ?
    480 (5.5Tf) - ? ($299?)
    ? - 1070 (6.5Tf) $379 - $449+
    ? - 1080 (9tf) $599 - $699+
    ? - ?
It equates to Fury X performance if rumours bear out.

I really hope that proposed AMD Polaris comes out at $299. I mean that stretches my graphics card budget of "no more than 150" as it is but performance wise it is slated to be fantastic.

Just can't jump in with the Nvidia ones any more, they're far too expensive. I'd been keeping an eye on Pascal until the prices came out.

Much like DamoVotf, I can't really be bothered with AMD cards any more. I've had a succession of good to great cards (4870, 6870, 7970) that somehow have never worked out quite as well in practice as in theory. My 970 has been pretty much flawless.

Of course, I could still be swayed by something extraordinary.

Scan is showing 620 for the initial 1080s.

Overclockers have theirs between that and 636...

(Why can't you put two links in one paragraph?)

    @Dirtbox

Sorry DB, forgot to post. I've tried Clear Sky, as it's the only one I've got on Steam, but I couldn't get it to work. I still need to dig out my SoC / CoP discs, been distracted by various other things.

I just remembered how much of a pain in the arse the Securom in SoC was.

Apparently my gtx 970 doesn't meet the minimum requirement :)

I quite fancy jumping into PC gaming (have lived on consoles for oh, 25 years).

Please could one of you fine, upstanding folk point me in the direction of a decent idiots' guide to assembling a gaming machine?

    Apologies for hijacking!

Hopefully after we vote to stay in the EU it'll have a nice effect in dropping GPU prices, AMD cards, especially, have risen in price stupid amounts since launch.

I don't know how good the guide is tbh, but I've always liked Tom's Hardware (I haven't done a complete new build since the i5 2500k came out in holy shit 2011)

That's just the founders 'reference' editions. Proper manufacturer cards will be like 100 less
