What annoys me the most is how good prometheus could have been until they decided to go full linderloff.

Footage hasn't been screened by Fox as well as an R-Rated trailer.

Apparently very gory, very tense and scary. It's HORROR!!!

    Trailer will hopefully drop shortly.

I didn't even know this was in production.

The poster is amazing. I hope this means it's going back to basics.

I want a self contained, phsycological horror/thriller, in a claustrophobic environment with well drawn characters/dialogue. And practical creature / gore effects. I don't care if it follows the same story beats as the original.

I don't care about pseudo intellectual philosophical subtexts and stupid Alien universe/lore building. If it fits into some wider arc, the details she be incidental and peripheral to the main story/characters and only hinted at. Leave it ambiguous!

And maybe some power loaders. They were cool.

    :D

You do realise who the director is, yes?

It's going to be a retarded CGI-fest with spectacular effects and 2D-characters doing stuff no sane person would ever do, all wrapped up in lore immensely, spectacularly far up its own ass.

To be fair, the director is both the guy that totally nailed Alien and then drove it straight into a brick wall with Prometheus.

I'm intrigued to see which mode he was in when he made Covenant!

I'm sure he's not blind to the criticism of Prometheus, and the fact he's made a point of calling this Alien gives me some hope it's going to be a proper Alien film rather than whatever the fuck Prometheus was supposed to be.

Didn't Prometheus have a lot of studio interference?

@Decks Yeah that's what I'm hoping for too. I definitely get the impression that he's wanting to make this a return to the first one. And from what people have been posting online about the clip screened to the press, it's certainly more horror/bloody etc.

As a stand alone sci-fi action film, Prometheus is absolutely fine. But it fails as an Alien film (I prefer it to Resurrection though). My problem is they seem to want to explain how the Xenomorph was created, and to be honest I dont want to know, it takes away the fear.

For me the alien is scary because it's this terrible creature that exists to kill. As soon as you start explaining that it was engineered or whatever, it becomes less scary, and more of a product.

As a standalone anything film it's an absolute mess.

Agreed, this is going to sound wanky but the alien always had a dreamlike other worldly quality. The kind of thing you run away from but find you're running in sand. Apply logic and reality testing and the illusion is ruined.

It's just a name. What would you have called it? "Proper Alien"?

    No it isn't.

It's a steaming pile of incoherent turd.

    @monkman

Preferably something that doesn't have intense religious undertones and sounds like it'd fit right in with the Avatar franchise.

There was of course a ton of things wrong with Prometheus. Script was just bad, characters were clueless, massive waste of screen talent like Edris and Charlize, not a horror film, but not much action either.

I still find it watchable enough, but still was a massive disappointment. Still about on par with Alien 3, if not a bit better.

Was about to post the same. Honestly I watched it with a mate and we were trying desperately to love it (I'd bought it on bluray, so I was very confident I'd find something to like), but the script is so awful that it's impossible. It is fucking terrible and such a huge missed opportunity. I even watched it again to see if I'd like it better second time: nope. Still rubbish.

It really isnt, but whatever. I don't want to be that guy, but it gets decent reviews. It's purely its connection to the Alien franchise that makes everyone go all hyperbolic about it being soooooo bad. It's not great, and it is largely stupid, but I found it really enjoyable in the cinema, and worth it for Fassbender alone.

Anyway, I hope Covenant is better.

Seconded. It is decent despite some stupid moments.

Resurrection is the weakest of them. That rubber half breed at the end!

Agreed, its very watchable and entertaining even with the dodgy script and mostly disposable characters. Stunning visuals though and Fassbender was great.

Resurrection is quite a bit better than Prometheus.
