I'm undecided on whether or not I should buy a Pro. I already have a Samsung 4K (no HDR) which I've predominantly used for movies/TV shows, but not sure if it's worth upgrading my vanilla PS4 which itself already looks great through said TV. Other than the obvious - and bear in mind for gaming I've never really got caught up in all this whole resolution/framerate malarkey - what other benefits will buying a Pro bring to the table? Would liked to hear from those who actually own one as opposed to web site reviews and analysis.

You get a couple of gfx options in a couple of games, making you feel for a sec like you're one step closer to the PC master race?

I already have a PC, but as reasonably good as it is it's mainly used for older titles I missed out on when I predominantly gamed on console, the odd PC exclusive like Legends of Grimrock and modding. I wouldn't call myself a member of the PCMR, but I'm well versed in tweaking my games should I feel the need to.

So anything else? Or is it just a few graphic options?

Oh, were you asking a serious question? ;-)

Actually, I find the gfx options in games are nice to have, letting people choose that which is the most important to them. Personally, I prefer resolution to fps (I believe 30fps looks better than 60 anyway), even if I sit too far from the TV to truly appreciate it.

The USB port on the back is useful, keeps a cable out of the way. Boost mode is pretty cool for those games which were just short of stable. Mine is quieter than the regular one I have, but you probably can't count on that.

USB port on the back? That is handy. I have a 1tb external plugged into my current PS4 and while it's perfectly safe it is unsightly having the USB cable sticking out the front the whole time. Still, it's not so bad as I'd spend £349 rectifying it.

I'm really not all that concerned with framerate. Sure on the PC if a drags to a crawl it's nice to have the option to sort it out, but on consoles they're generally stable enough around the 30fps for what I need.

    Hmm, don't know. Don't know.

Going to have to give this some serious thought

Wait for Black Friday to find a deal and then trade in the console you already have to get cash off it. Minimal outlay for a relatively decent upgrade (depending on what/how much you play).

If I had a 4k tv and a PS4 today, I'd probably buy the Xbox Pro thing instead. It plays 4K movie discs and is better for multiplatform games at 4k I'd expect.

I have a Pro already and only a 1080p screen, and I like it but I just wanted to buy a thing 9 months ago, it wasn't a well-thought-out purchase.

If it was £100 cheaper I would consider the X, but no, £350 is the absolute limit I'd put down for a game console and even that is fifty quid more than I'd normally like to pay.

If I didnít have a good PC Iíd probably but a one x over a PS4 pro. The only reason I have one is so that I can play all the games that I can only play on a PlayStation, and actually Iíve not touched my pc since I bought it so itís a v good purchase so far.

Considering the amount of exclusive games on PlayStation I don't regret getting a Pro and if offered the choice between the two today I'd still get a Pro. The difference on multi-platform games isn't going to be stark enough to justify the extra money it would cost me to get an Xbox X.

In an ideal world with money to burn I'd have both and a massive OLED telly.

How much of an improvement is PSVR with the PS4 Pro? I've tried PSVR on a vanilla PS4 and was thoroughly impressed with it. Not that I have plans to invest in PSVR any time soon, but if I did it would be good to know if the Pro offers distinct advantages.

    It's a bit sharper.

@Derblington I wouldn't say it's sharper, but you will notice the texture detail improves quite a lot.

I used the PSVR on vanilla for a while and have recently upgraded to a Pro.

Eve has noticeably better textures. Dirt Rally shows the rain hitting the windscreen.

I have a Pro and a 1080p too and while I usually completely forget that I've upgraded the damn thing I'm pretty sure the cleaner image is one of those things you'd miss if it was gone. And boost mode is nice. Plus, they're cheap enough that with the trade-in value of the old one it's not too expensive.

I don't know if I could recommend going from PS4 to X1X though. I think it would be dumb to give up the PS4 exclusive library at this point, and if you hang on to the PS4 the X1X proves to be way, way more expensive than switching to a Pro, and it's ultimately just for sharper looking games that you could have already played.

The lack of a UHD BR drive in the Pro is fucking mental though, we can all agree on that.

If it kept the price of it down I donít think it is mental. I have absolutely no interest in uhd br what with amazon and Netflix etc

I have a PC with a GTX1070 TI, 16gb ram, intel i7 and I'm yet to see a 4K game on it that looks better than Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank or Horizon ZD do on my Pro. Comparable multiplats all look and play better on my PC but nothing touches those games for art style or aesthetic.

So I have a 4K hdr tv that I got for £400. LG.

Thinking of buying the pro or is it even worth it right now? £350 with fifa or I can get the normal PS4 with fifa for £230.

Is the pro that much improved on then the PS4.

If you can afford it without issue there's no reason not to. You have a 4K tv so can take advantage of that feature and the boost mode will give some benefit to non-Pro patched titles.

Wait 2 weeks for Black Friday sales and pick up a bundle.

    @Derblington cheers mate

Decided to just get the PlayStation 4. I will be playing rainbow 80% of the time so I doubt Iíll see much difference. Plus a £130 more is abit too much for me atm. Rather put that to better use.

Iíll wait till the next wave of consoles to enter 4K gaming.

@Psiloc I more meant keep the OG PS4 and get the X1X as well,.though in hindsight it makes sense he plans to trade the PS4 towards the Pro.

    @Godofporn
    Ha!
It's the best value console at the mo, imo, provided you're rocking the 4K tech at home already.

I'm happy with it on a 1080p screen. It's quieter, games look better (Horizon was beautiful) run better and, most importantly, there's a usb port on the back.

Iíve noticed that too (I have a similar PC). The only game I have thatís close is witcher 3. The big difference though is half the frame rate, and it is taking me a while not to feel a bit sick (literally)

Yes totally agree the frame rate is definitely better on PC, it just feels less sluggish playing on PC. Witcher 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition both look amazing and far better than when I play them on my PS4 but I still don't think they look as good as Uncharted or Horizon on my pro, I do play my pro through an LG Oled 4K tv and my Pc through a dell 4K led monitor so that might be why.

Hahah none. Had to sell the rest because never got time with the baby around. Now my other half is quitting work and becoming a full time mother and me bringing in the money. So basically I have the go ahead to relax after work and donít need to do no house chores or baby sitting. YESSSSS

    Plus I fucking miss rainbow.

It is definitely partly that. Also though I just think that you notice a bit how much more polished a game can be if itís just developed for a particular piece of hardware, like horizon zero dawn. There seems to be so many environmental effects in that game itís mad, even more than witcher 3 on ultra. All the pollen and grass stuff flying around is brilliant.

The only things Iíve been slightly disappointed about so far are uncharted 1 (it seems to have more combat than a call of duty game) and the last of us (also just way too much fighting for me, I was quite surprised by that). But I think that is partly because they are relatively old games, and also maybe just console specific games are a bit more shooty shooty
