A good muso mate is having a breakdown on Facebook at the moment. He took Bowie pretty hard but this has seen him leave work, go home and post photos of all of his Soundgarden merch while seemingly in floods of tears.

Cornell was one of the last great rock gods, it's not hard to imagine the effect this will have on many millions of fans young and old. He was also one of the few genuine good guys in the rock world.

Fucking hell, we covered a Temple of the Dog song on Saturday evening. Devastating news, an absolute God and one of my all time favourite vocalists.
What track. I'm going Hunger Strike, Call me a dog or maybe Times of Trouble
It was Hunger Strike, I didn't do Cornell's vocals anywhere near enough justice!

I don't know what to do with myself .....RIP Chris Cornell

I remember standing in a foot of water at the front to see him live with audiosoave at download back in the day.

His music has kept me on the straight and narrow more times than I can remember.

    so so gutted

Times of Trouble what a tune.

in shock, saw Sound garden in Manchester around superknown times - epic gig and what a voice, best I have every heard.

Good point about the triumvirate of grunge and 2 out of three are now gone.

Temple of the dog - possibly my favourite album ever. I was listening to scream yesterday (don't care I liked it)

    And a lovely lovely guy

Soundgarden were one of the first bands I ever got into and still spin them regularly (had Badmotorfinger on the hifi just last night!).

    Well shit.

As as already been said very very sad news. Not sure about a holy trinity though, Layne Stayley was one of my favourite grunge singers.

Obviously there were loads of other great bands like Alice in Chains, but those were definitely the big three at time.

Itís pretty sad how many of the key members of the scene are dead from either drugs or suicide. Goes with the territory of making music about being miserable I guess.

I know. It's miserable but I suppose if they didn't have that side to their personality the music wouldn't be so powerful and touch so many people.

Confirmed now that Chris Cornell's death was suicide by hanging. :(

"I told you I was Ailes" on his gravestone, I've heard.

The day I tried to live.
    Superunknown
    Black hole sun
    Blow up the outside world.
    Any number of audioslave tracks.
So many good songs, and what a voice

Looking through the tracks though there are clearly a number about depression.
    A great shame.

I fucking loathe Black Hole Sun, but he did enough good since then to atone for it.

RIP. Suicide especially is no way to go.

It really isn't. The song is nonsensical (like they're throwing random words together just because they rhyme), an interminably annoying 5-minute earworm of torture. And the video is like a bunch of kids who just got some video editing software, suddenly learned that they could make people's mouths bigger, and proceeded to abuse the fuck out of it. Which might have been revolutionary in the early 90s, but it sure looks dumb now.

Anyway, like I said, I'm not going to judge the guy's whole career on one misstep. But Black Hole Sun is objectively, scientifically awful.

I'm with Decks. I have no idea who this guy is. I even Youtubed a couple of songs and didn't recognise them.

I can't remember such an outpouring of grief for an individual on the forum though; he obviously made a lot of people very happy.

Casino Royale theme is epic though. (He didn't write it, just sang it)

I know the song Black Hole Sun, but that's about it. And that's only because it's one some rock compilation double CD I have.
