    Right stick. You don't really need it but it's handy for the crafting bug.

    Not sure what I think yet, but I haven't really entered the gameplay loop. But i can foresee it and it is something I can see myself being lost too.

    I know it's probably a trapping of the game but I wish the days were longer. Spend a few hours in the morning clearing up the farm, go to talk to some people, by the time you've made the rounds it's time for bed.

    Time management is always a problem in this type of game. There's really no rush to do everything as there's no time limit. It's best to do what you find most enjoyable. Chasing the next upgrade can be quite addictive.

    My first project is to put a big fence around the entire farm. I chose the standard farm as I like having a lot of field space.

    I've gone for a beach farm to start of with. So do the four farm settings offer anything different from each other?

    Lmao I didn't even know you could pick a farm type. I just entered a farm name and went to ok.

    Yeah the farm types are on the right when you're making your character, didn't notice them either when I played it last year on the PC. Just went with the default too as I didn't get many hours out of the PC version. Like the idea of a beach side farm though.

    What are the buttons for fishing on the Switch? I've got the rod and can cast it in water but I didn't get any explanation of how to catch fish.

    Yeah I guess I'll just leave it now. I'm already at the stage where I don't want to start again and quite like the layout anyway.

    Point of note: use the right stick when playing the minigames in the pub - the default buttons haven't been mapped correctly for shooting in the correct directions. The devs are aware.

    And hold and tap Y to keep the green bar in the right place.

    Thanks for the fishing tips. I'm glad I held off from playing too much on the pc version. It feels like a great fit for the Switch. The controls are acceptable, not amazing. It helps to turn on all the assists in the options menu.

    Not had a chance to play it today. My tasks for the days ahead are go mining for some ore so I can build my furnace. Hopefully in this time my cauliflowers will have grown so I can sell them and get enough cash for the backpack upgrade.

    When fishing sometimes the tapping Y to keep the marker in line with the fish is stupid hard. Is this because the fish is a "good one" ?

    I keep reading this thread and I've watched some videos on it but I don't think it's a game for me.

    Inexplicably, I still want it.

    @crashVoodoo

    Yeah I assume the better the fish the harder to reel it in. It's more than scratched the harvest moon/animal crossing itch I had for the switch.

    @Derblington I thought exactly this. Not played harvest moon or other farming simulator before but for a tenner this was a cheap jump in and if I get 5 hours out of it it's worth it. Son will love it if I dont. However, this has a hook in me, and I keep thinking about things I want to do next time I come back on.

    I was all set to go to bed last night and picked the switch up to put it back on the dock. Brought it out of sleep and then lost another 20+ minutes to it... Only realised when she shouted down asking WTF I was doing.

    Yeah, the price is absolutely in the impulse range, it's just that I already have enough to play. Add that to the fact that i might not enjoy it and it's steadying my hand for the while.

    @Derblington

    Do you have a spare 40+ hours to spend on it? It's an open ended, fairly grindy game with a great deal of player freedom.

    Game is starting to get it grips in me. Done a parcel in the abandoned house and given a leek to an old man. Cleared out the front of my house and now will open my door to a scarecrow each morning.
