    It's maybe/nearly summer?!

Even though the weather is pretty shitty i'm determined to only listen to summer jams from now on.

Anyone else have favourite pop-punk/punk songs for summer?

I've never listened to these guys: it's mint.

The first Get Up Kids album is always a summertime winner.

    Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat.

In keeping with the bump (i.e. doing more than reading the thread title!), i can put this on during November and it'll feel like summer.

I had a chance to see them(Spraynard) when I visited friends in Brighton a few weeks back but I had walked too much and eaten too much pizza in the day.

Iron Chic are another good shout if you haven't heard them before. Probably the best live band i've seen in the past couple of years too(although I haven't seen a great deal).

Never seen them, but I've heard bits and pieces and they are pretty good, they remind me of Milloy.

Have you heard Pudge? If not they're sloppy cider punks from Sheffield, they sound a little like Chopper.

Thinking about it I've hardly seen any punk or hardcore bands over the last few years either, it's all been metal :(

I think most gigs and shows pass me by and I only end up hearing about them 3 or 4 weeks after they're long gone. A mailing list of some sort would be handy and I thought Facebook would help but everything still seems to evade me without any of my knowledge.

Same here. It doesn't help that I work every weekend and a lot of Sheffield gigs seem to be on Friday nights. Are you still in Grimsby? Is there much in the way of punk/hardcore stuff going on there? There's a bit going on in Lincoln, but not enough.

There's absolutely shit all in Grimsby at the moment. It was just mainly the same hardcore bands playing. One of my friends who was in one of those bands got quite bored of that and has started up a punk band in a similar vein as Iron Chic actually.
My sister attempted to get Crash of Rhinos playing here(aswell as some other bands for a bit of variation around here) but didn't get much of a response.

I do late shifts on weekdays but i'd be quite happy to hop on a train to Sheffield or Lincoln if there was promise of a decent gig. I should really get back in the loop and find out what happens on weekends.

    Enjoyed NOFX on Thursday. :D

Also really like the Wonder Years lately, melodic hardcore/pop punk sorta thing.

Oh, and hardcore wise, Cerebral Ballzy and OFF! (who play in London week after next) are fucking ace.

    Rejoice! Bad Religion are back!

    New single: Fuck You

The new record 'True North' will be released in January! It is apparently a departure from their last record and a return to frenetically paced 2 minute punk songs! Awesome!

Two years too late, but this is indeed a cracking album.

@thelzdking I think I completely forgot to watch that Pudge video you posted ages ago but I definitely recognise some faces in that video(I think someone on my Facebook feed(Craig) seems to always post Pudge updates) and also recall the ol' Not Shy gig flyers in the background that I haven't seen in a long time.

Yeah, sadly they've split up now because the drummer had to move to London or something, but I think that they're reforming to play Boozey Du this year.

And Bangers are mint. I still need to get the new Dauntless Elite album too. So out of the loop it's not funny.

Everyone should listen to Her Parents.

For me, Descendents. Milo goes to college was my favourite album as a skateboarding teenager.

Not sure if this belongs here, but here goes:

I discovered that despite I don't like punk, all the metal bands I like most have a strong hardcore punk element. That includes (obviously) Napalm Death, (and less obviously) Slayer, and Mayhem. Maybe even Venom.

    @Graveland

Those are all good contenders, but I don't see why they'd be more punk than Sodom... especially since Sodom seems to be absolutely unapologetic about making punk songs

Downtown is Dead[/link] We don't really have a thread for music that isn't metal or punk do we?

    Yes, we have. Black Metal.

Which is both metal and punk, unfortunately.

Is Grimsby still a fucking cultural wasteland? I grew up there and have done my best to avoid returning...

I have memories of people playing the schnapps barge...
