Pics of a 12 foot model of the Reaverised Serenity, that was found at the back of a Universal Archives warehouse.

Just finished another rewatch of the series + Serenity. It doesn't get any easier.

Most of the cast were at the SDCC this year.

Don't you think this series would be perfect for a videogame? It's obviously never going to come back to TV, and they're getting on a bit now. But a videogame? It could work. I think a KOTOR style RPG would be great. You have Serenity as the hub, and a whole system of planets to visit with a ready-made lore. The series plays out like a game anyway - they land the ship on a planet then go and shoot a bunch of people. The cast seem to all love the series so it'd probably be easy to get them on board. Someone needs to make this happen.

I'm not sure a KOTOR style interface would work. Part of the reason the dialogue works is its quickfire nature. But you would need something to represent the dialogue - as a straight up shooter it'd miss the point.

I don't think the cast have aged too badly. Granted, it's going to be harder for Baldwin to get back into shape now he's hit the big five-oh, and Glau's grown up, but otherwise I don't see any reason why they couldn't have been pissing around on Serenity for up to ten years.

I dunno, I quite like the idea of a radio series. Just not Fillion's idea of a radio series.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

In real life, he'd smell of anger and breath mints. Have you ever read his twitter feed? If you want your image of Jayne to remain unsullied, don't. The man's a loon.

Just started watching this. Love it. Can't put my finger on why. I just do.

Some elements remind me of Star Wars' golden age (the old spaceship reminds me of the Millennium Falcon, the main guy reminds me of Han Solo, Jayne reminds me of Chewbacca). Then there's the low budget charm. Also the mystery of the cute psychic supergenius being chased by the equivalent of the Empire.

Too bad it's only one season long. I'm already almost halfway through :(

Thanks for heads up. Nathan Fillion is a good follow though...

All of you that forgot rule one may be getting banned:

"The first rule of Firefly club is that you do not post in the Firefly thread until and unless the show has been picked up for a second season. Every time the thread appears our collective hearts dream for a moment that it could be true, only for that hope to be DASHED!"

I'm looking at you. Yes YOU!

I've just watched this for the first time, it's really as good as everyone says it is. A couple of weak episodes with noticeably contrived plot lines but it's mostly brilliant.

Unless you then post a picture to make up for it. An no I'm not posting one now.
One of the other fellows that bumped the thread can do that.

If you watch the latest Castle episode (for only 3 minutes and 40 seconds will suffice if you're not that much of a fan) there's another fairly good Firefly reference in it.

    That's Castle.2009.S05E06.

Also: as the rules state: Mrs Malcom reynolds

Well I finished the season. Objects in Space was hilarious (and a bit tragic). Now on to the movie!

I'm a bit late to the 'WHY did they cancel Firefly' party, but it's sad that such good writing, memorable characters, etc. were blown out the airlock so soon.

But hey. At least they made a film.

Low budget? When I saw the making of mini-documentary thing, and I saw the stage they built for a show that only lasted for 20-odd episodes, it boggled my mind how much they were willing to spend on something they apparently hadn't comitted to.

Wasn't one of the main reasons for cancelling it that it was so expensive? First season of Red Dwarf is low budget.

Ok so it wasn't low-budget. I take that back, and replace it with cleavage:

    Probably NSFW

Seeing Hendricks on Firefly - as a scantily-clad sociopath to boot - was a nice surprise.

Are there other TV series with witty banter, or a great cast dynamic, a la Firefly?

Watched an episode of Dollhouse (because of Joss Whedon) but it seems mostly dour-faced and humourless, with no cast chemistry to speak of.

Really, I'm after the methadone to Firefly's heroin.

I'd say Psych has great banter but is completely different to Firefly as it's so not sci-fi.

Anyway, a big photo of the main cast:

@sirtacos They say Buffy has the same flair. (Which is only logical). Other than that I think you have to stick to comedies. Well... Justified has a bit of it. Also does the "Classic western in another setting" that Firefly does so well.

    It's not sci-fi, it's space opera

@Jono62 Psych seems decent so I bought a few eps on itunes to check it out. Cheers.

@Tonka I used to watch Buffy as a kid but it no longer appeals to me. Same for Angel. I already watch Justified - sharp recommendation though.

I suppose there's nothing quite like Firefly.

Especially in terms of how organic the cast is.
The Pilot alone manages to establish a feeling of warmth and familiarity towards a crew that play off each other so well it's almost melodic. The snappy writing plays a big part in that dynamic, of course, but the show's true brilliance lies in how it all clicks together. I've never quite seen that before.

It's the audacious, cobbled-together charm of it, I guess.

I wish Joss Whedon would make another character-driven space opera.

In the meantime, I've started the Battlestar Galactica miniseries and so far I'm pleasantly surprised. For some reason I never thought I'd like BSG. Same reason I discounted Firefly before I fell in love with it.

Apologies for the obsessive rambling btw. I tend to be overenthusiastic about anything I like. Doubly so if it's a new discovery.
