Just read this on Blue's who quotes a GameSpot news bit on the upcoming Vampire sequel. While that prospect might be exciting to many people, what I find highly interesting is that Activision has licensed "Valve Software's Source engine" which is the same engine we witnessed in the HL2 screens.

Valve Software's Source engine? Never heard that before. Anyway, this also should clear up the confusion on why/how Valve associated with Activision on one day only to release HL2 with Sierra the next week.

The pencil and paper RPG is one of my favourites. Interparty conflict between clanmembers was always a laugh, it brought back happy memories of playing Paranoia! :-)

The computer game was a lot less successful, it looked great but it was so RPG-lite it didn't work for me. Any whinging vampire like Christof would have been staked by the forces of a city's Prince as soon as he made an appearance!

I've seen quite a lot of '...Bloodlines' - it's a really good title but is being held up in order to give Valve's HL2 the first bite at the cherry. Part of the terms of the Valve engine license, I expect. It's in Activision's Q4 release schedule, mind.

I've just watched the 13 mins and it looks ok, in a way the info could be classed as a *Spoiler* to would-be players of the game. Though the info was rather obvious.

Nice one, thanks. Only parts 1 & 2 are available actually (part 3 tomorrow), but it's definitely looking good. Not sure it's really my cup of tea but I'm ready to be won over.

Yeah this game is really grabbing my interest now. I’m actually looking forward to this more than I am HL2.

Can people not come up with better dialogue than "Who dares enter my domain?!" these days? Jesus.

Does look good though, but I'm not quite convinced yet.

Anybody played the pen and paper RPG its based on? Obviously with tabletop stuff the game experience will swing wildly based on the skill of the GM (or Storyteller in WoD parlance) and PC's, but generally its the best RPG I've played. I can see how you could get it wrong, but our GM went for the serious horror approach and it totally worked. If you take the munchkin route you may be disappointed...

...which brings me onto my point. Vampire was a great tabletop game because it kept its face straight and ramped up the horror, making us the PC's have to deal with our loss of humanity and the people we once loved. How well this will translate to a video game, and FPS no less, I'm not sure, but I'm still downloading the videos... :)

And I must have been the only person alive to think Redemption was actually pretty good, although that damn camera... grrrr...

I've been a bit wrapped up with work just recently, so maybe I've missed some press release or other... But if this game is due to land in October (reading in PC Zone this month, and also play.com have a release date of the 1st) then I would be expecting a bit more of a fanfare about it.

I'm really looking forward to the game, and if it's truly out in just a few weeks time then I'll be chuffed. But if it's not, I'd hate to have gotten my hopes up. ;-)

Can anyone shed any light on this? Is it actually coming out next month?

I read that they are contractually not allowed to release it until after HL2 is out, so you're probably looking at November sometime.

Yeah, I remember reading something similar. I had hoped that in the contract they'd written an actual date (September 30th, 2003 ;-) ) thus letting them sidestep that issue. But that's just me desperately clutching at straws.

Oh well - I'll let the FPS crowd get their fix and wait patiently for the game I actually want to play to get released...

I was certain that this has been postponed until 2005. Am I missing something?

Ah, I'd never read that. It's entirely possible that PCZone didn't even contact Troika regarding the release date.

Ah well - I'm just glad I didn't have time to get my hopes too high. Thanks, folks.

    *bump*

To my surprise, I've just seen that this will be out a week after HL2, apparently.

I don't think I've heard anything about this game for ages. I really didn't like the first one, but still hope this might be good, as it's at least a little bit something else than the usual D&D fantasy stuff, and I am dying to play something RPG-like.

Is this supposed to be any good? Why is it being hushed up by the press, or am I imagining things?

I think that the HL2 fiasco threw it into the netherland. Because they can't release before HL2 the bigger game has taken all the press. Preload, preload, preload, preload.

The Troika site's got a bunch of preview/hands-on/interview type texts linked. Quite a few are nice and very interesting reads. Yes, sir.

    What?!??!!

OK. Seriosly. There are far too many games coming out that I want to play in the next two weeks. Even if I took a month off work and pro plussed myself up to the eyeballs I won't get through it.

Here's hoping for a January games drought.

/isn't really complaining. Does really know how lucky he is.
