On route C and quite near the start of it, wow it can suck a big donkey dick. Literally dreading to see how far it's going to send me back once this unavoidable death happens. Awful.

Fuck me it's sent me back 45 minutes because you can't save in-between. Incredible.

    What part was that?

I was partway through C, got a boss I was ill-equipped for, and haven't touched it since. I need to sort out my chips, but I just haven't felt like going back.

I know which part you're talking about. As soon as you finish the fight in the flooded area, save the game. I turned the game from hard to normal just to get through that part

Are you guys playing on hard?

I can't remember any point during my normal diff playthrough where I wasn't breezing through the game. One of the easiest games I've played in a long time. Hard mode was just 'fuck you' unfair though, to the point where I wouldn't recommend it at all for a first playthrough.

I played it on Hard. It was brutally unfair at some points, one hit kills when you don't expect it etc. It isn't until late game when you have some good chips that things aren't as bad. The gap from Normal to Hard was too much, I wish there was something in between.

Also, not a huge fan of the corpse run mechanic of finding your dead body again.

I'm playing on normal, but I haven't really been bothering with my chips properly, and I think I may be a bit underlevelled - it was two-shotting me.

Because I've been playing it on and off, I just haven't really bothered to do any of the more RPG-ish stuff, y'see.

Honestly, spend all your monies on healing items and spam away.

That doesn't feel very elegant :p
  • Deleted user 6 July 2017 14:01:34
    it really isn't :)

To be honest, i didnt need to do but if you are struggling... best way (though chips do help massively)

Bosh, way past that now and properly back into the thick of it. This soundtrack, my word.

Don't remember any spikes myself on normal reall7. Just remembering to save. As for the chips I generally just used auto equip options bar for a speedbased sidequests.

@Graxlar_v2 The main problem is just that I haven't really been properly engaged with it for a long while. So I put it on with the intention of getting something done and just can't be arsed to fuck around in menus.

Starting to think I'll never actually finish it, and that doesn't really bother me. Never thought I'd have that reaction after the first game.

That mechanic is rendered entirely irrelevant once you realise that said run starts from your last save anyway. So you can just cheese the mechanic out of existence by loading your last save when you die, as you start at the same spot but with all your chips on hand.

Out of interest, how long is route C? and therefore D as I believe you just reload and choose the other character?

Wondering if I can finish this off today, I have nothing on at all so just planning to play this all day.

@Humperfunk I would estimate Route C at around half the length of A or B. But a lot of that is down to sidequests. You can run through A and B pretty damned quickly if you skip sidequests. C has generally fewer (and shorter) sidequests.

    You are correct about D.

Lovely stuff, thanks. Up to a bit now where it sounds like Pascal's village is being attacked when I went to get him a book now, can't really be arsed to do any more side quests now as the backlog is getting huge. Done 60% of them though but just want to get it finished now. Would be my third completion in two days though so progress!

@Humperfunk Once Route C is completed, you will be able to chase up old sidequests using a chapter select function.

Unless... well... you choose to do that during the end credits.

Now into the library, playing as A2, the ties to Nier are coming even thicker and faster now!

Managed to get endings C, D and E a few hours ago. Wonderful game overall. Such a shame with the timing though, I didn't get to finish it before Persona came out so had to park it for so long.

Now back onto a game I parked for Nier in the first place, Horizon Zero Dawn :)

Having just played through the first Nier (admittedly after Automata due to PS3 problems) I much prefer the way routes (C anyway) work in Automata... Ugh, the first game is just souring me on everything I enjoyed about it during the first 2 routes... B through D being identical and repeating exactly the same stuff again and again bar tiny ending changes really sucks. No chapter select either?

Finally finished up the five main endings on this today. Yep, it's taken me this long, as I just had long periods where I didn't really care about the game. I still wanted to finish it though.

Overall, it's a good game, but not a patch on the first in the ways that matter to me. There's a lot in there that I really like, but it just didn't grab me in the same way the first game did, and I doubt memories of this one will stay with me as long as the original. Glad to have seen it through though, as I did wonder if I ever would.

The soundtrack is almost as good as the first, however. I have the vinyl on pre-order \o/

Haven't played much, so very wary of spoilers, can anyone advise on which items I can safely sell? I imagine it's most of them, but want to check. Ta!

Not checked but items have in description "can be sold to vendor" or similar on them if not used for anything? I didn't use most the items tbh but think fish and lower in the inventory can all be sold safely.

@Ror For some reason I preferred Automata over the original. Not sure why as I lked the scenario in the first one. I thought the routes were a bit more varied in this one too.
