I'm researching an article for a local newspaper about games that didn't make it to Europe and only got released in Japan, the US, or someplace else but Europe.

Suggestions about titles, platform isn't important as long its a home console or pc-game, that are worth mentioning?

Katamari Damacy is an obvious one, Yourself!Fitness is another one that fits the profile. I bet there are, alot of good games that are only available through import but even more games that are just to weird for your average European guy or girl.

How about that odd Japanese fad for train driving simulators a few years back? Arcade machines which just had a control lever for speed. Looked very dull.

Final Fantasy Tactics and Suikoden III are out.

but Final Fantasy 11 (PS2) with hard drive is another good one.
In the States, yes, but he asked about games which didn't make it to Europe...

Might be an idea to point out that there are some games that don't make it to Japan or the US. GTA was a famous one where serious persuasion was needed to release it in the Far East, and the US hates it that they don't get rally games (in fact I believe the release of CMR1 on the PC/PS1 prompted channels to have to start showing rally - they even devised an "overlay" system, a bit like watching a ghost car replay). There were even people in the States who didn't believe it was a real sport. They thought it had been spawned from a videogame

Indeed, thanks hadn't looked at it that way. Might be good to just bring a bit of balance to the article since its mostly for the very occasional gamer or mum/dad that wants to be "hip and down with the kids" :)

Nascar in Europe is like F1 or Rally in the US. Just because it ain't common, they just asume we don't care.

Shame really, Papyrus's Nascar games are amazingly good.

    Mario RPG
    Chrono Trigger
    Secret of Mana 2

    All on SNES.

The first Parasite Eve game, although PE2 was released here.

Um... Katamary Damacy? I think (hope!) that's coming out, though.

Ooh... I'm not sure about that. I had a dodgy copy of one of them, but I can't for the life of me remember if it was Japanese or not.

IIRC Virgin interactive went under, and whoever bought their IP decided it "was not tastefull" and it was only avaliable on leaked iso from the internet.

Front mission 1+2(in english) +4 (in uk)
    Bahamut lagoon
    Romancing Saga Trilogy

Kururin Paradise, GBA. Best game ever.

    Cosmic Smash, DC. Very great.

KP might very get a european release. Bergsala has it slated for 2005 according to their own magazine.

And Cosmic Smash, was it even released in Japan? It is...quite...impossible to find.

I assume that was a sequel to kuru kuru kurururururururin was it? Got first one with my gba and loved it. Always thought it odd there was no sequel. Would work well on ds too so maybe we've got more chance of seeing that.

I think it was EA actually. Fun thing was that PS1 Debug copies was sent for review to magazines, and some even claim that some copies where manufactured. The latter is probably a lie, or we'd seen some Ebay action by now.

Radiant Silvergun on the Saturn springs to mind. Probably one of the best 2D scrolling shmups ever. Quite a few shmups on the Saturn and DC never came out here. Seaman on the DC springs to mind too.

Sounds likely. It was certainly no shock when it was canned. I actually doubt many places would have stocked it anyway

At least say vertical shoot em ups.

I would argue that horizontal games like Metal Slug are different enough to warrent seperate classifications

Heh, KP getting an euro release... :> It came out in 2002 in Japan. Quite the delay.

Fozzie_Bear, buy Kururin Squash for Cube too. Fantastic game, although not as good as Paradise,

skal, Cosmic was released, yes! I had it with me to the last Geekmeet, you not remember? Hehe.

Yeah I remember, altough I also remember you saying you couldn't fine another copy in all of Akihabara, and despite looking several times, I've never seen it on Ebay either...hence the bad irony :p
