Had a hilarious mission yesterday. It was a mission to protect some data thing and there was both an andoromdon and a gatekeeper sitting right next to it doing over 20 damage a turn. Needless to say, I failed that mission.

@Mola_Ram Yeah I'm disappointed with the load times, PC players seem to get incredible optimisation in the latest patch but not us.

I also booted up a new game and my specialist was wearing a top hat and sunglasses. Had to restart, such a fashion choice felt game breaking. Why is that even an option for a resistance force?!

Well I own the xbox version and I'm playing it currently. It's in no way broken, it does in fact run just like the pc version pre patch, so not great. There is a significant issue with destructible scenery reducing the frame rate to single digits. At the end of the day it's a UE3 game that should run smoothly but we all know Firaxis aren't capable of doing that.

@GarlVinland Quite right. If he's wearing a top hat, then it should be a monocle rather than sunglasses.

Goddamit, now I want a steampunk-themed XCom 3 with upper-class Victorian gentlemen taking on the alien menace using duelling-pistols and Queensbury Rules fisticuffs.

I didn't realise this at the time, but he was the spit of Abradolf Lincler. Tactical vest and everything.

Missed opportunity, he's gone now.

So... the Warlock just kidnapped my best ranger. And when I went to the covert actions screen, there's no action listed where I can start a rescue.

Anyone else get this? Or know how to get that covert action up?

Lol, I don't mind the stupid fashion. You can change them to whatever you want after a couple of promotions anyway.

I do agree that it's pretty immersion breaking, if that's your thing. "I thank you for your concern Bradford, but I think my concealed Ranger is perfectly fine in his fluoro pink top and sombrero".

The expansion is broken on Xbox.

Just booted up my Xbox to play WotC, but I need to update the game (perhaps unsurprisingly). Except that the update is 43GB!!!!!!!!! Maybe next week then!

The load time improvements on PC really are a night-and-day change. I could never understand how they were so bad previously, even when the game was running from an SSD.

My overall sense of WotC on PC is that it has fixed some of the longer-running technical issues associated with the PC game, though an underlying layer of general Firaxis bugginess still persists. Despite those minor irritations, the game feels in mostly good shape now, though it's annoying that it took so long to work out the issues.

I would guess that you may need to do more of the faction actions until they turn up as an option.

Played a few missions last night, up to the first resistance mission. On PS4. Christ it's janky. The framerate and loading times haven't been fixed at all. I was hugely hyped hearing about the PC optimisation but looks like we won't be getting any of it. :( Just going to have to persevere. Loving it though, even if it seems way harder than the first. The additions are all very interesting.

@GarlVinland Base PS4 or Pro? The PC optimisations are massive and I'd be really surprised if there was no improvement at all on at least the more powerful flavours of console.

@Rogueywon Pro. I didn't play much of it on release so I don't have the unpatched game as a comparison, but I've been hearing that loading times on PC are in single-digit seconds, and in some cases the mission loads before briefing has finished. Plus I've watched a few PC streams and I'm getting way more framerate drops. If there is an improvement it's nowhere near the level of the PC, sadly.

Well, I'm actually a bit relieved that the jank isn't limited to the vanilla ps4 version of the game. It gives me hope that optimisation could be possible, rather than it just being a case of the console simply not being powerful enough to run the game smoothly.

Regardless of the optimisatin on PC I still get really jumpy framerates when my soldiers are jumping off the transport at the start of a mission.

@Mola_Ram Hope so. It's definitely distracting and I'd hoped on hearing about the PC improvements that the patch being delayed meant we would be getting something similar, but alas not. It's manageable though so I'm just going to keep with it and hope they patch it down the line. About to get my first Reaper and Skirmisher so I'm excited! :)

@GarlVinland Running from an SSD, start/end-mission loading times on PC are now around 3 seconds at most for me. This is around 1/10th what they were before the patch.

@Rogueywon yep, definitely not close to that for me. :) I did a complete reinstall and download too, no difference. That's fine, if we get a patch, great, if not, I'll be playing it anyway!

My first vanilla XCOM 2 solider to get kidnapped is pretty appropriate

The enemy you encounter fairly early on when attempting to skulljack ruined my Squad's day

I had the same problem last night. I was absolutely nailing a "very difficult" Advent Facility, mission when an officer finally turned up that I could skulljack. Things went south very quickly after that, resulting in the death of 2 of my squaddies. I have been save scumming quite hard until now, but I was about 1 hour into that mission and couldn't be bothered to restart it. I did manage kill the fecker in the end, and blow up the facility, so at least I managed to knock 3 points of the advent timer.

Yeah, the Codex is a nasty surprise if you're not prepared for it. Imo they're one of the more annoying enemies in the game.

Damn, first encounter with The Hunter damn near well killed me. It was on a map with ever so many zombies, and he really was not helping matters.

Some bad turns in my normal difficulty game, feels like it's totally lost now:

    -2 Squad wipes
-not enough recruits for a new full squad
    -low intel
    -low supplies

Trying to not savescum (which I did a lot in XCOM 1) so think I'll start again, hopefully with better knowledge in mind

Felt relatively easy up until the codex showed up! :D

That is just because the game is still streaming in assets.

So, I've played a little but enough of X-Com 2 to know I like it. I've just downloaded the expansion. One review I read reckoned a new player should start with War of the Chosen because it's just the best version of the game. Opinions?

It just adds more stuff. Like, a lot more stuff. If you've already basically got a handle on the game, then yeah you should definitely play it over vanilla. There's loads of little improvements everywhere (number 1 for me is how much easier it is to train up rookies).

The opening cutscene put my vanilla PS4 in to rest mode. That's not a great start.

This is not a game you should be playing on console tbh. Pc version is overwhelmingly superior.
