Well, it's chess. Can't imagine there's a whole lot to say. A shorter review of 500-600 words should be more than fine. More than welcome to waffle if you want to though.

No score or badge, but the summary must include if you recommend it or not, who for etc. Or if you think it's an essential purchase say so.

I'm just grateful that you're offering. Do anything you want actually haha.

Might be worth pointing out that that definitely isn't the Switch version of Doom :)

Most probably yes. Hence why he is looking for a proper house to live in.

Absolutely no coverage of Switch DOOM today. Thought it would be worth at least mentioning.....

I'm sure there will be a comprehensive DF article about it by next week, if not over the weekend.

Bethesda tend not to give out review code either. When Doom 2016 was released there was nothing about it until it came out so people were surprised when it was actually holy shit good.

Everyone else has actually reviewed already; i guess DF will have an article up at some point as kay says. Should be interesting.

I predict the DF article will state..... graphics not as good as PS4 or XBox1, followed by much consternation and debate!

    Do I get a prize?

My first impressions last night of Doom after a few beers was that in handheld it was a bit blurry and hard to play.

After a few hours on the train today I am absolutely loving it. Can't believe they have squeezed this onto switch... The only negative is the HUD being a bit small, other than that this is the full blown package - I only played it round a mates before so can't wait to get into the campaign.

Just the sort of game I was needing after all the Nintendo first party stuff.

I know people mentioned it earlier but the switch has surprised me with how much gfx aren't important to me vs just being able to pull it out the bag, push the standby butto and you're playing in seconds. I can see me completing a lot more games now.

@rice_sandwich Excalibur, obviously, but I may see what everyone on the friends list buys and get those tables (assuming enough folk are getting it?). As fun as the game is, it's the leaderboards that make it great.

    And as for Doom...

Yeah I'll probably get Excalibur as well. I'm planning on getting universal pack and the aliens one.

@the_milkybar_kid I would imagine the Switch will be more inclined to get scratched if you put lining inside the dock. Dust, particles, bits of food, dirt, anything really, are likely to stick to the velvet/anything you line the dock with and hence scratch the screen.

Yeah I was wondering about that. Also I suppose the more you narrow the space with padding the more pressure it puts on the screen. I think I'll just hope the protector does the job.

I was so so so so so so tempted to get Doom today. I had it in my hands and everything.

Slightly kicking myself that i didn't get it. But it was Ł40.

For anyone struggling with controls. Turn down look smoothing it's the 3rd option. Gets rid of acceleration. Much better for me

How is it in handheld mode?

Spot on. There's a bit of blur which makes me suspect it may not look as good in docked mode but it looks superb on the Switch screen. The lower frame rate hasn't been an issue at all (I previously played it on PS4 and XB1 btw) and the controls are very quick and responsive (no lag of course).

I can concur with this. I'm an x1 doom veteran. It's remarkable in handheld mode. Very very reasonable docked but obviously not up to the level of any of the other versions. MP looks a fair bit worse on the telly tbh, but plays very well imo. Not tried MP handheld yet.

Handheld sp though. I remember wondering if we'd ever see anything like this back when I got my launch DS. It's a marvelous thing, this machine.

As a veteran, what level are you playing on? I beat it on Nightmare last time round and I'd love to give it a bash again on Switch. But it is so chaotic that I'm wondering how well it would work in handheld. Have you noticed any instances where you're having to fight against the switch or it otherwise not being suited to it? Have you caught yourself thinking 'I could have done that bit on Xbox'?

@BigOrkWaaagh right now, just normal. I always need to get used to the speed of doom. Especially on a different controller. I was concerned whether the controls would feel weird. It's the first time I've found the sensitivity of the sticks to be a bit much tbh. I think it's just that there's less travel.

Pro controller is fine though, and I think tweaking the settings will help immensely. Someone posted that turning look smoothing down worked for them, I tried that and it helped a lot (thanks). I reckon turning it down more will get it feeling right.

Other than that no. Not really seen any instances of fighting against the switch. It's Doom in your hands, which is a little feckin miracle in my eyes ;)

@Ghibli Yeah I think I would do the same, start again on normal to get used to it again. Good to hear it's working so well!

I've got a long plane ride coming up in a couple of weeks, and after watching the Giant Bomb quick look I'm pretty tempted to pick up Doom for it.

    Chess Ultra

User rice_sandwich kept his word and written an excellent review of Chess Ultra for the Switch, saving my backside in the process. If you're interested in this very chess-y chess game I suggest you take a look at his review.

    @brigadier

The graphics in the review don't look like the Switch version.
