Can't seem to find a thread about this yet. I know we don't even had a 5 yet in the west, but the demo for 0 is up on the Japanese PSN for any that fancy some excellent fighting action (and admittedly, a lot of talking with gruff looking blocks in a language I don't understand....so not to different to my weekends).

That's violent in a way that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable.

As much as I would like to see it get released in English I am dubious about uts chances unless the digital only English Yakuza 5 does a lot better than anticipated (and I wish they would release a physical version of that even a lricier limted edition). I may import 0 for PS3 to complete my 'set' (minus the PSP games) as I have not seen a need to get a PS4 yet.

    Played the Japanese PS4 demo.

It's alright, nothing particularly special really. I mean, I can't speak or read Japanese but the demos for Ishin and Yakuza 3,4 and 5 still blew me away. This just feels kinda bland I guess.

That engine is starting to creak now as well, it's properly ugly on PS4. Yakuza Ishin was much better.

@samharper I read that it's supposed to be 60 fps - so i take it that, as usual, it doesn't add enough to the gameplay in all games? Shame.

I seems though that many Japanese devs still build for both PS3 and PS4, and IMHO that brings the quality of the PS4 version down.

How was the story? Y4 was just amazing, and hoping 5 will be too!

@DesignByAdrian It is 60FPS during gameplay, but it doesn't really have that much of an effect on the gameplay at all. The cutscenes still play out at 30FPS.

It did feel like a PS3 game in 1080p, but the PS3 version doesn't have screen tearing as far as I'm aware, which 0 actually did.

I don't speak/read Japanese so I had no idea what was going on in the Y5 demo, but the cutscene was still cool and the new location was really good to be in. Looks great for a PS3 game as well. Really looking forward to the Western release, whenever it is.

@samharper Thanks! I don't really care much for the framerate as I do for the resolution anyway. The faces have always looked great for each console generation, but in Y4, for instance, hands were usually too large!

Shame they don't seem to have utilised the power of the PS4 yet. Time for a new engine!

Christ. Wasn't expecting it to be so violent. What's with the money flying everywhere?

@CosmicFuzz It doesn't look more violent than the past games.

This game is a lot focused on earning money - something about Kiryu earning a place in the Yakuza, from street punk to leader or lieutenant - I guess he's robbing other yakuza off of their money :p

I finished this on release. It looks fine, really. Everything is a good resolution, it's smooth on PS4 and the cutscenes look great, both in terms of modelling and animation. Earning money is fun for most of the game and the notes flying everywhere is a nice flashy effect. Most importantly the story is ridiculous, it's pumped to the gills with top yakuza actors and you can play both Out Run and Super Hang On in the arcades.

It's clear the budgets are limited but Nagoshi's team do well and don't over-extend themselves, though it does tie things up a bit too quickly.

@uiruki Is it worth importing?....does it have English subtitles?

No English. There's enough action that you could probably enjoy it with a translation guide, but I don't know if there are any good ones.

Edit: I highly recommend getting 5 once it comes out in English. 80 hours, five characters, five cities, just ridiculous.

I find it absolutely mental that you lot think this looks rubbish. It's beautiful! I was just slowly walking around in the demo, mouth hanging open at how lovely (although also very very dingy) 80s Kamurocho looks!

I really hope it gets a subtitled release :(

That level of violence is brilliant. Is 5 the same then?

Well to be fair there's not exactly a big leap in graphices between this and the older ones.

That first pic is from 4 on the PS3 and the second one is from 0 on the PS4..............Or is it the other way around?

To be fair it is a cross-gen title. I'm sure the next title would be a PS4-only title, and as a result would have a much graphical upgrade. Can't say it bothers me as I still yet haven't completed 3.

As people have said, both 0 and Ishin are PS3 games upscaled to 60fps and 1080p from 30fps and 720p, so most of the extra stuff doesn't show well on youtube.

Definitely worth playing the demo as it really does look lovely when you're actually playing it.

You can get a better idea from actual gameplay footage, like this one from Ishin.

I just stuck with PS3 version for Ishin as the difference didn't sound worth upgrading to a PS4 for. I imagine that will be the case with a lot of the Japanese dual releases like this and Persona 5 due to the PS3 still being where the money is. I imagine the Musou games are probably a lot better on PS4 but I don't play too many of them (currently Next on PSPlus on Vita and Hyrule on WiiU).

I thought about importing an Asian 0 but have left it for now as it shouldn't get too scarce for a while. I atill have to finish off 4 and properly play Kenzan and Ishin. (5 may wait for the English release despite having the Korean version here (JP language with free translation book included, same with Ishin, an interesting approach that would likely fail here))

So has anyone who can understand Japanese played much Yakuza 0? Despite not understanding a word, I have done OK so far, but now I have now gotten stuck on part of the main story.

You seen to need to fetch five homeless guys five items they desire. I had read that one of them wants a bottle of champagne. But I haven't got an idea what the other four would like. Tried Googling it first, but got nowhere.

Yakuza Fan seem to think that this will be getting a physical release. That'd be fantastic, especially if it doesn't get a European release (I'd like to think that's a mistake by SEGA, but then so is waiting 3 years to release 5).
