Apparently this unlocks in ~30 minutes on Steam, if the internets are to be believed.

Anyone else looking forward to playing it? I'm sure it'll be more of the same but the refinements sound good and thankfully it's ditched flash now as well. Love the new look too.

I stopped playing BoI as soon as this was announced. Very excited.

Does it have Wrath of the Lamb content included?

I believe so, but with balance changes, plus lots more new stuff.

I imagine pad support will be there - it's getting a console release this time after all.

Just had a quick go, only made it to Caves level 2. Very out of practice. Seems a little faster, lovely and smooth though. Lots of improvements visible already. Big rooms FTW.

Don't you unlock further stages once you beat it? The map was only showing 5 stages but there's like 10 in the old one.

Yes. Standard X360 controller support, or DS4 as always if you use DS4tool. I'd recommend using a controller, because movement is analog this time, no strict 8-way with set speed as in the old one.

I guite like the game. I like the 16-bit style more than I feared, and I love how smoothly it runs, unlike the badly performing Flash mess of the original.

Heard of this but had never played or seen it before yesterday, at first glance not really sure what all the fuss is about tbh. Granted this is on the back of a 10min go, I'll have another look later.

    @ChiefGB

It's an indie darling, there's the fuss.

good job I got it for free on PS+... absolute rubbish.

Is this like the equally idiotic reverse of when people say "People only hate CoD because it's popular"?

After 170 hours of the original, somehow I'm not very excited about the idea of restarting everything...

So, are those that like it kidding themselves? Do we need to wake up and play some 'proper' games? Because that seems to be what you're implying.

You don't 'get' these kinds of small games. Fine, everyone has different tastes. But you don't have be so dickishly dissmissive about those that do and the devs that make them.

Thought this looked shit but in actual fact it's pretty fun to play and not too overwhelming. Like the randomness and variety of it after a couple of hours play.

    Very much a combo of:

    Smash TV (loved the game)
    Bomberman (awesome!)
Crazy eccentric RPG style stuff (Kingdom of Loathing style)

It has nothing to do with indie loving. There are thousands of indie games, but only few reach this sort of popularity. Isaac was in my Top 3 of 2011 as was Skyrim. I don't care much if it's indie or AAA, it's a superbly executed brilliant game (admittedly, style and humour hit my G-spot), in principle a SNES game that's better than any actual SNES game.

BTW, I wasn't convinced early on either, it took me a few hours until it really caught me. I played the original 400 hours, making it the overall #2 in my Steam library. One of its outstanding feats is insane replay value thanks to tons of content and procedurally generated stages.

#1 is Skyrim btw, which also took a few hours to grow on me.

@drip thinking about it, between Isaac, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Halo Anniversary, Mario 3D Land, Shinobi 3DS and Serious Sam 3, the holiday period of 2011 contains some of my most played games around.

Yeah that was a bit of a cuntish post on my part, one of those days and belly rumbling before lunch too.

Well, I do remember the 2010-2011 era, with the rise of indie devs, when journalists and gamers were all gushing on pretty much every indie title out there, regardless of whether it was actually good or not, with the shtick being "it's not AAA therefore it's awesome".

Isaac is most definitely good though.

...The other big addition is a very welcome ‘Normal’ mode, easing the way in for newbies...
So I guess hard mode is what the original used to be on?

Normal is tough enough for me for now!

Normal is basically what the old game was from what I can tell, some people find it easier but that may be because RNG is on their side, or they're just more experienced.

I still haven't beaten Mom once after 3 hours play. I should have but I got fucked over about 2 rooms before the boss leaving me with no good way to do damage.

To me it feels like it's getting harder with each playthrough/the more you unlock/or something. Definitely seems harder to me now than when I started playing.

As to the original game's difficulty: the WotL expansion upped the difficulty, so Rebirth on normal might well be harder than vanilla but easier than with WotL.
