So now we have a retro section (\o/) and it wouldn't really feel right if we didnt tell people what games they missed out on and "correct" those "mistakes" :p

    et voila:

    Mega Drive
    Toejam and Earl
    Gunstar Heroes

    Snes
    Zombies

Do these have to be games that have stood the test of time and would still be considered decent if someone played them for the first time today?

Or can we include games which we loved back in the day and have since played again and realised they were shit? ;)

I think the former works best :p

Lost_soul - your name is rather appropriate is it not? :p

    I second Gunstar Heroes.

    Also:

    Amiga

    Sensible Soccer
    Speedball 2
    F1 Grand Prix

    Arcade

    Commando
    Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
    Defender
    Galaxian
    Street Fighter 2
    Puzzle Bobble 2
    Metal Slug X
    Shock Troopers
    Neo Drift Out

I'd better stop there - I think this could get lengthy!

Mega Drive: I have to agree with Toejam and Earl. Awesome game.

I could barely cram all the games from yesteryear I could recommend to you into this server, so I will make it a choice list...

Dungeon Master(Atari ST) - Superb RPG-like, horribly addictive.

Oids (Atari ST) - Pure arcade bliss with a superb level designer. Not to mention lots of poor little stick figures and trees to roast.

Carrier Command (Atari ST) - Went back to this recently and it's aged rather well. Superlative arcade strategy game.

Carmageddon / Splat Pack (PC) - The epitome of the series, if anyone ever wants to do a remake of this using current tech that would be just fine by me. The Michael Caine lookalike's mini with the huge spike on the front is still the best vehicle EVER!

    Megadrive

    Flashback
    Another World
Desert Strike (I was playing this on omy ipaq all night the other night)
    Mega-lo-mania
Agreed with ToeJam and Earl although 2-player is significantly more fun.
    Dr Robotniks Mean Bean Machine

    Saturn

    Nights
    Guardian Heroes
    Rival Schools

Rock 'N Roll Racing, the verry best racing game of the era.
For the SNES and Megadrive, proof that Blizzard can do allot more then Orcs and Zerg.
And you can play the demo of the GBA version online! linky

Just the one track, and one car but you can buy upgrades for it if you win. Allot of the commentary seems to be missing aswell. Still cool though.

    Megadrive:
It's already been mentioned, but 'Puyo Puyo/Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine'
    'Gunstar Heroes' (again)
    'Shining in the Darkness'
    'Shining Force II'
There are more, but someone else'll probably list them.

    SNES:
    The usual suspects:
    'Yoshi's Island'
    'The Legend of Zelda: LTTP'
    'Bahamut Lagoon'
'Final Fantasy III/VI' (depending on where you are)
    'Chrono Trigger'
    'Secret of Mana'
    'Super Mario Kart'
    Etc.

    Saturn:
What Kalel said, though leave out 'Rival Schools' and put in 'Street Fighter Alpha 2', instead. (It's still my favourite 'Street Fighter' game, though it isn't the best.)
'Radiant Silvergun' (though I don't own it)
    'Virtua Fighter II'
    Etc.

There are loads more, but I'll be here for a while if I list every great game for any other consoles.

    Slimey's Mine - C64

For the digitised sound effects alone.

    Syndicate - PC/Various

Squad based shooters have never been the same since.

    Sim City 2000 - PC

Took the original to a new level. Don't touch the GBA version.

I was going to mention that, too (no, really), but refrained from doing so for the reasons above.

Oooh, I forgot to put 'Columns' in my list.

I think I'll have to. But after RE4.

Excellent choice! I'd also add Ultima 7 (both parts) and Star Control 2.
