Severed definitely, such a good game.

Not necessarily 'sleeper' hits but I can't talk about Vita recommendations without Danganronpa or Virtue's Last Reward!

    I concur.

I was hoping for a few new sale items this week, as I always like to buy a new game or 2 to take on holiday with me...

Still, I've got one more season of WRC4 to do (the actual WRC championship) which should see me through the rest of this week, plus a bit more time mopping up the trophies.

Then it'll probably be Risk of Rain, FlameOver or Xenoraid, although I did suddenly have the urge to give Helldivers a go...

And by the time I'm back it'll only be a month before DanganRonpa V3 is out, so I'll have to organise my gaming diary around that!

Shovel Knight is quality. I loved that game so much, I had to buy myself the Amiibo :)

I'm still plugging away at WRC4 - I'm on the final season (WRC championship), although it has twice as many events as previous seasons...

The game is both brilliant and awful at the same time: it doesn't look great, has very long load times, keeps trying to go online (Airplane Mode doesn't help), has a strange bug where the engine sounds occasionally fail to load, so it sounds like you'e driving a milk float and sometimes really stutters.

But, when you're in the groove, power sliding around gravel corners, missing rocks/trees/walls by inches and destroying the competition, it's a really sublime experience.

Going on a trip soon and need a game recommendation for this system, preferably something released more recently on this system, as I've played most of what's come out.

Currently considering Salt and Sanctuary, Steins;Gate Zero, though I've been in the mood for Strategy, Arcade or Adventure-y games. Also have a great love for JRPGs so keep those recommendations coming too!

JRPGs that aren't the usual go-tos include Tales of Hearts R which may or may not still be on sale and YS Memories of Celceta. Both are decent rpgs of a slightly more actiony bent. I also enjoyed Muramasa in the arcade adventire category which really looks lovely on the OLED screen. If you like Mystery Dungeons there is Shiren the Wanderer 5 which was well received, although I haven't got around to playing mine yet.

Tales of Cold Steel 1 and 2 are more traditional turn based JRPGs although you might want to play the two Trails in the Sky games first (available on PSP but not sure if first got delisted recently...)

Also currently playing Tokyo Xanadu which I am really enjoying. Modern day action RPG with limited social stuff between dungeons. It really cpuld have used another editing pass for the English bit I still think it is worthwhile. Of you are physically inclined 365 games stock the UK retail version.

@Barrel_Trollz Ys Origins looks good - admittedly I haven't actually played it as got quite the backlog but the reviews sound awesome.

Odin Sphere is essential if too!

    @One_Vurfed_Gwrx

Just to clarify (excellent suggestions btw) that Trails of Cold Steel 1+2 do not in any way require knowledge of Sky (and apparently you can't get them all any longer). I haven't played them but familiarised myself with the storyline and it doesn't come up really at all.

I'm just about to finish the second playthrough of the first ToCS (sitting at the last boss on Nightmare diifficulty as I type this) then will be moving straight on to the sequel. Fantastic games that completely knocked my Persona 5 plat playthrough into the dust.

With the Third coming to PS4 they've asked in a poll whether we'd like a remaster of the first two. The answer has to be yes.

You can get the Sky games on US PSN, which you need to factory reset your Vita to get to, unlike the PS3 or 4.

I had heard that they were designed to be standalone for new players too. I suppose what I should have said is that I had heard they will spoil the earlier games if you plan to play them. Hopefully the Cold Steel PC ports should make PS4 an easy option and of course that Falcom have bee doing PS4 ports of tgeir last few Vita games, YSVIII and Tokyo Xanadu. I am back to playing first TitS on my windows tablet so will leave ToCS until I do them.

I forgot about Vita port of YS Origins. I haven't played through that one on PC yet but I hear it is considered one of the best YS games ganeplaywise. I hope the Vita port is decent as I may try and get it and PS4 version frrom LRG in a few weeks...

Once you're done with Trails 1 and 2 I recommend Cold Steel 1&2, then play Trails 3.

Trails 3 is excellent btw, my favorite game in the series actually. Combat is more exciting (and boss battles are way more hardcore requiring better positioning and timing), story is self-paced which is a cool idea (I think it works well), and the music is the best yet. Heartily recommend that any past Trails fans pick it up on PC if you can.

Especially since they're in the process of testing a DX9 port of the game which solves most hardware configuration conflicts and allows you to use your GPU on laptops. Native 4K, woo!

I've also picked up Xcom in the humble bundle \o/ and I ended up with Salt and Sanctuary, too, which I'm excited for. I'll probably be crap at it, mind.

    Cold Steels before Trails 3?

Does Trails 3 use a different engone than FC and SC? I am playing FC happily on an Atom X5 8300.

As for the Humble Bundle, I would have grabbed for the Vita games if it wasn't such a pain to region switch and I am tied to UK by games purchases and PSPlus pretty much...

Still got to decide what Vita games this year I want. Yomawari 2 is a definite as long as we get a standard edition here (import if not, but NISAEurope customer support told me we should get an SE outside of their store this time (Rose in Twilight was LE only here). Preorder Ys VIII on Vita for the LE despite less content as more likelyto play it there and cheaper than the PS4 LE (ps4 SE should be available for longer too when I want to doubledip). Will go for Vita SE of Danganronpa v3 too. Not sure what other physical stuff is due really this year that I care for.

@One_Vurfed_Gwrx yeah, cold steel before sky 3. Nothing significant to the main overarching Ouroboros incident or Erebonian conspiracy happens in Sky 3 other than one mention that I think is best experienced after Cold Steel 2 (the trails series regularly spoils itself :p). Trails 3 is pretty self contained.

And I think you'd get worn out on the same battle system in the Sky series if you marathoned them, best to take a break with Cold Steel then finish Sky.

Sky 3 doesn't really use a special engine or anything but it does have trouble making use of modern GPUs, and DX8 can't use GPUs with Optimus technology enabled. You'll be fine, but it'll run smoother and prettier once they get the DX9 patch ironed out \o/

I recently completed the story mode for Persona 4: Dancing All Night. It was actually quite enjoyable. Story segments did kill the flow of the gameplay at times though, and how many times have I seen that still image of those audience shadows with ribbons.

No story for upcoming P3 and P5 dancing games is still somewhat good news. It's all about the songs and gameplay and there are some great tunes in P4: DAN. Enjoyed it more than I expected. Just continuing with Free Dance mode now.

    Sadly back from holiday :(

I played quite a lot more of WRC4 and am now on the last events of the main WRC season - and then I'll be done...

    I also played:
    - Xenoraid, which is a surprisingly hard game - there seems to be a massive difficulty spike at the beginning of each planet - especially as you lose all of your upgraded ships.
    - Flame Over: I've had it since launch and have never played it. What a disappointment. After dying 5 times at the beginning of the first level, without any real idea why, I ditched the game and deleted it.
    - Undertale: Slightly underwhelmed by this one. There's nothing wrong with it at all, but I just don't get the excitement of it getting a Vita port, nor the gushingly positive reviews...

I'll finish WRC4 today and then focus on Undertale (I'm about half way through) for the rest of the week.

Does anyone know if Oddworld New n Tasty was ever patched to add cross save as promised?

I'm trying to shift my save from the Vita version as I've got a game breaking bug where Abe falls through an elevator, but the PS4 doesn't show my save in the online storage. Searching online just brings up 2 year old tweets saying it's coming in a patch.

    Any tips for a noob?

I've managed to get through the teleporter a few times - longest run was about 20 minutes, but I've not unlocked any of the other characters are artifacts.

Keep moving, keep jumping. Look at the achievements list and go for some of those (they unlock items). It's all about items, really. Once you unlock some good ones, the game gets much easier. From memory, the one you get from dodging fatal attacks as the Soldier is good, though it can be tricky to set up. Remember, the dodges don't have to be all in the same playthrough!

Aside from that, once you activate the teleporter, spend those 90 seconds going around looking for items, while killing things on the way.

    In sum: GET ITEMS

I've cleared a few challenges so unlocked a bit more stuff - Risk of Rain has a very compelling 'one more go' feel to it, and before you know it, you've been playing for a couple of hours :)

It starts off pretty difficult, but by the end of the game you will have so many bullets and icicles and missiles and everything flying from you, that it's actually quite hard to tell what is going on. It's utter madness.

    +1 to all this!

I'd also say, try to save up for drones, if you come across them. They are generally the biggest DPS dealers I reckon, plus you can just kite and they will do all the shooting, as safe as it gets. Also, there's an achievement for buying 30(?) of them, and the reward makes the early stages of the game much easier IMO.

There's a character that I think makes the game a whole lot easier once you unlock him, and you can do it fairly easily. Again, tied to achievements so just try to knock off the easier ones as you go.

    And yeah, items!

Yeah, drones are handy early on. Later they tend to die pretty quickly, but by then you probably won't need them anymore.
