Why's there not even a "religion" sub-category anywhere? In America, extremist liberal sites have a small non-religious section, here we defile God's name by not even mentioning his name (even though we're not supposed to mention his name, I guess).

How comes? Yes, we're no better Christians than the guys in the catholic church, but is there so little interest in religion? I mean, even if you don't give a shit about God, it's a fundamental part of any culture, even a self-proclaimed atheist one as ours. Isn't atheism just to protestantism what protestantism was to catholicism?

And where are the people here who have religious feelings? Are there really none in our cynicist devoid-of-hope European Union?

And will please anyone think of crying baby Jesus?

I've read the bible and it doesn't mention video games once so why should a gaming site recognise the bible.

Religion is ace if you live in an uncivilised society and need a mechanism to control the masses.

I come here to discuss games, how to properly plug in 360 audio cables and possible tennis ball size rectum wreckers, but not religion. It gets too serious.

Because he wanted you to go to hell. Save your soul and accept Jesus as Freud surely did.

Of course you could ask why it should, but why should it have sub-categories like "food", "travel", or "TV" then?

Religion is ace if you live in an uncivilised society and need a mechanism to control the masses.
Religion is often used/abused to control the masses, but is that really everything that is there to it? Are we really such Marxists? We'd have to be very religious to be so Marxist, actually.

Sick joke alert, only read if you're not easily offended.

A little girl is standing on top of a cliff, looking down at the sea and crying her eyes out. A priest approaches and says, "My child, why are you so upset?"

The little girl turns to him and says, "My mummy and daddy were in their car -- and it just rolled over the cliff and smashed on the rocks down there."

The priest slowly looks around him while unbuttoning his cassock and says, "It's just not your day, is it?"

Is it really worth the bother? Religion threads are always a clusterfuck.

Yes, but not quite such a clusterfuck as threads about Mass Effect 1 vs. 2.

But in all honesty: we have sections for Apple, mobile phones, PC hardware and online shopping. Why noit for religion?

We also have science, social and politics sections, so you can't complain about it having nothing to do with games. Religion has a lot to do with science (mostly by quarreling with it), and it has a lot to do with social and politics, doesn't it?

I am not sure, at least with Mass Effect there is some middle ground in that they exist in the same world whereas religions exist in their vacuum of faith. There is no penetrating that with reason.

I'm not sure either but I think he's saying vacuum cleaners are removing religion from the world which explains everything. Before the days of vacuum cleaners there was definitely more religion but it seems those bastards are sucking religion out of the world creating a vacuum of faith.

I totally agree, Islam is a bit mental ... I mean an all knowing all seeing super being that controls everything and the crazy following who derive their meaning and interpretation of a book claiming it contains truth. Islam is totally bonkers and not at all like Christianity where ..... hang on a sec.

Edit- god I'm drunk, should probably go to sleep now.

Question is though: progress is rarely as fast as in protestant societies, societies that put ambitiousness and thoroughness above anything else (like just giving all you have to Rome, to a Renaissance pope sacrificing the Holy Church and Jesus to sodomy and lust).

It was the protestants who taught to be thorough, striving, and honest.

Scientific/philosophical/objective thoroughness wouldn't be quite the same without the protestant will to truth.

We all know they were evil, but still: would our modern "extremist" materialism/scienceism/whateverism be possible without its father, protestantism?

And Germany is better at making protestantism just as much as at making vacuum cleaners.

Very odd thread but...that great German Martin Luther was heading in the right direction, but most flavours of protestantism have ended up as peculiar and twisted as the best the catholic church can come up with. I'd say science is more attributable to the renaissance which I doubt he had an influence on directly, but kicked off at about the same time.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

That is some wonderful brohistory right there. You must have missed the Islamic contributions to science, and the Catholic contributions (yes, directly under the auspices of the Catholic Church).

"Teaching that pretends to have established the irreducible antagonism between the scientific spirit and the spirit of Christianity is the most colossal and most audacious lie that has ever attempted to dupe the people."

Next, some ignorant cunt mentions the "Dark Ages."

Anything that pushes religion towards the irrelevance that it should be is ok with me.

Fish fingers and chips pretty straight forward.

For the OP, who wondered where the religious people are here.

For the most part, they're not here.
