Last couple of days I've been getting this thing where my iPhone starts to open the App Store while I'm viewing Eurogamer or the forums. This has happened to me before with Minecraft Forums quite some months ago. I never leave it long enough to see where it goes in case it is somehow a virus - when MCF was doing it though it went to fucking Candy Crush on the one occasion I left it loading long enough. A viral advertisement? If it's deliberate, I find it really offensive, and if it's not deliberate, either you or I have an irritating hack going on.|

Mine's been doing the same, and on other websites. I don't think it's an EG issue.
Perhaps statistically I'm on Eurogamer more than other sites so it could be coincidence that it happens here.
I just looked at Minecraft Forums on my PC. The thing down in the corner which tells you what is downloading from various sources always goes nuts on that site, the ads I'm guessing, visiting it always feels like thrusting your hand into a pot of cold soup filled with worms.

Yep, it's to do with the ads, and it fucking sucks balls. Are EG *really* ok with users being taken away from the site? Often it happens each time the page loads, so you get taken to the app store, go back to the browser, only to be take back to the app store again. At that point, I give up.
Such ads are, imo, little better than viruses and phishing scams, and certainly damage my trust in the sites concerned.

I have the same thing on Android but only on the websites that are affiliated with icanhazcheesburger or whatever it's called.
Failbook or verydemotivational are often good for a quick read on the can but with an ad there that drags me to the play store, I've given up on the site for now.
Luckily not yet the case on EG.
@craigy Dr. Benny is at the scene. Will get this looked into immediately.
Thanks. It only happened that bunch of times over a couple of days, don't know it will happen again, but was always just at random moments while browsing forums or couple times in the main site. If it happens again I'll let it load in App Store to see where it goes, if it's an "ad" it's totally unacceptable! Like having your TV suddenly switch channels to an infomercial channel at random moments.
Yep, it's happened to me on iPhone and iPad across a variety of sites. Pretty annoying, feels like a spyware infested pc when it does it.
Makes me mourn the loss of my jailbreak and AdBlocker/AdBlocker networks, but the iPad especially was in dire dire need of 7.1.

No jIlbreak here, and it doesn't seem to be happening anymore thankfully.
I wouldn't be so sure, I can go a week without it happening then it can happen twice in quick succession.
Just happened twice while viewing THIS page:
Then again AS I WROTE THIS POST.
Went to something like "Dragon War: Fire Age" I'll take better note of the name next time, generic instantly forgettable shit (which I instantly forgot unless that name is correct!)
"Game of War: Fire Age"
That's four times in about 90 seconds!
The cocksuckers have a banner ad across the top of each Eurogamer Mobile screen. I'm not touching the ad, it just jumps to App Store again and again. 5 times now.
6, only happens when the game is the banner ad. Fuck those whores off your site, it's making it un-useable.
So this is what's happening:
Every time you navigate to a new page, there seems to be a random banner ad in a slot at the top. IF that banner ad comes up Dragon Age or whatever it is, the App Store will open to the game no matter what. The ad can roll twice or more in a row too it seems, so it's just constantly taking over your iPhone.
I don't want it happening even once, let alone over and over!

I think the fault ultimately lies with Apple that certain ads can do this in the first place.
@bennyw01 Just updating you on the offending ad, see above.
@ubergine Thanks for the responses here.
Clearly something had made its way through the exchange here and is causing issues. What territory are you in?
Here's a pic of the offending ad.

Just to add that I've had this too
(though not very recently).
That ad appears to have gone out of rotation again. The other night it seemed to be rolling with two other ads that could come up randomly, so I guess you had a roughly 1/3 chance of getting AdRaped each time you navigate to a new page or refreshed. The ads coming up now are completely different ones from those three and haven't caused a problem this session.
