Red Dwarf's time travel episodes always tend to a be a bit cheesy. Had some good jokes though, the vindaloo one really made me laugh.

Weakest episode so far, but still made me laugh. Liked the explanation of Rimmer's middle name :D

    Why was Jesus a Geordie?
He wasn't, did you not see the end? Apparently he was Scottish by the sounds of it :D

In any case, is this really anything to nitpick about in a show like Red Dwarf. We're talking about a very cheesy, absurd sci-fi comedy, I'd be a lot more surprised if they had a somewhat accurate accent :)

Whose to say what an accurate accent was back then, there's no audio records, there's not even a record of what he looked like.

Worst of the three so far for me, but not horrible. I just prefer the ones set on the Dwarf more.

I think a large problem with this episode is that the episode brought back memories of Back to Earth, which means people dislike it even though the episode is good on its own merits.

I didn't have a problem with the episode this week, it still held its own with the funny stuff. I thought the pay-off to the Cat nicking Lister's pork was pretty good. The one thing I didn't like though was that ridiculous joke about Jesus' age and Rimmer doing his hand-calculator thing. How fucking long did they stretch that out for an answer everyone knew was coming?

Agreed. I originally didn't like RD6 because it was set in the confines of Starbug.

When I saw the "Next Week..." trailer for Lemons I had my fears. They were pretty much warranted. Disappointing episode last night and wasn't a patch on something like TimeSlides which it tried to mimic in places. Couldn't quite get over the fact they had to walk from Albion to India. Wah? (and that sort of thing doesn't normally bother me in a programme like RD).

    Hope next week is better.

yeah I think it works better when they don't try to branch out so much. Some of it made me laugh, though it wasn't a patch on the first 2.

I wasn't too impressed with the episode either, I know continuity isn't important in RD but Rimmer's parents were 7th Day Hoppists for a start.

How Kryten couldn't power up the remote was a mystery too.

Anyhow there were some laughs but it's certainly the weakest of the three so far.

    This space left intentionally blank.

I quite liked it. Was probably the weaker of the three, but it still brings a smile to my face watching Red Dwarf that isn't totally shit (S6-7 BTE). At least its not trying to be Blade Runner.

@Steve_Perry You've got a point. It wasn't as good as the previous 2 eps but still better than anything churned out from S7, S8, S9.

I thought it was unbridled shite. None of the actors looked like they were enjoying themselves either. I didn't even smile once, never mind laugh. Terribly written, logic gaps ahoy, and just plain not funny. The trailer for the next episode didn't bode well either. I'm starting to worry if they've front loaded the best episodes.

It just seems really low budget (I guess it is). The first few series were low budget but the imaginative scripts and great performances really made it not matter. This though, this is just bad all round.

What are they filming it on, it's like a cheap camcorder and the lighting looks far too much. Also, it all feels really claustrophobic, like each set is barely any bigger than a static shot. I guess that's the budget again.

No Holly either makes it even worse.

Meh, just not feeling it, time to let this once fantastic series rest in peace.

Meh, I don't care how it's filmed. BTE was filmed with lots of outdoor shots and in big studios, but that didn't make it any good.

Don't get me wrong - I miss all the old miniatures shots. But the characters are there, it's still fairly inventive and there is the odd joke to laugh at. The combined might of the late BBC series and BTE ensured they had nothing to lose with this, and so far, yes, I am enjoying it.

    Edit: Sorry, BTE not BTL

My point was not that expensive sets or equipment would make it better but that it just looks poor. Like it's filmed on digital camera, something I hate, like those crap straight to DVD films usually are. And the cast are wearing way too much make up. :p

    BTL?

Seriously, though. Flatpack furniture jokes? Was half surprised they didn't have a joke about how VCRs are hard to program.

To be fair, flatpack furniture is an enduring evil that we're never going to be rid of.

    Doesn't make it funny though.

I don't get why people are so down on Lemons. It was probably a space-saver episode, written at the mercy of the budget, that's how it felt to me. But it was still funny.

I think everyone's being a bit too kind and forgiving about these new episodes. Aside from the first one, they've been basically very disappointing.

Rimmer and Lister (or Barrie and Charles more accurately) especially seem to have forgotten how to act as those characters properly and their shared disapproval of each other has more or less gone from the writing.

None of it feels right. The scripts aren't bad necessarily, they're just not very good either, and the overall execution of them is pretty poor. Everyone just seems tired and disinterested and unsure of themselves.

It seems that expectations of this series have been so low that they've managed to surpass them, which weirdly has satisfied lots of people. But is that how things should work? No.

Just because you don't like it that's no justification to tell everyone else that they are wrong for enjoying the show. This isn't the Prometheus thread . :)

It hasn't been 'right' since Rob Grant sacked it off after season 6.
