PS4 Voice chat quality. A bit pants?

I made the switch from XBOX 360 to PS4 and I've been very happy with the Playstation 'experience'. However, one of the downsides has been the poor quality of voice chat. It's terrible, worse even than the first generation XBOX service. Fuzzy is the best way I can describe it. What gives and can anything be done to improve it or do I just have a dodgy headset?

Some people seem to use their Playstation camera microphone which picks up all kinds of background noise, that certainly does not help matters. Also noticed that only a small number of people seem to use their microphones in online multiplayer. Are Playstations players a shy bunch or are they all equally unhappy with the sound quality as me?

It's a real shame as I always found playing Halo/CoD on Live with a full team of players with microphones to be far more rewarding. You can call out enemy positions and coordinate attacks increasing chances of a win.

    Are you chatting to Fuzzy_Duck?

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

Seems okay for me even with the cheap muck they threw in the box.

My main problem with it is how quiet it is with the bundled in headset, don't think there's anyway to turn it up aswell.

There is less chat with Playstation owners than with Xbox'ers. I have no stats to back that up, but it's a pretty strong hunch.

Have you turned it up more in the adjust devices bit you access by holding down the PS button on the controller?

Chat seems ok on my PX5's. Not that there has been much so far. PSN does seem quieter than XBL, but the bluetooth/ps4 chat cable requirements for existing headphone users probably hasn't helped much so far.

I was sure that the chat was invite only on ps4 or is that just in killzone.
Also think it is very quiet on the chat side and i have turned it up full on a stereo headset, i have to turn game volume right down to here friends.

    @Vortex808
Do you mean you have no one shouting "his got some sort of armoured plating on his legs"
    :-)

"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem! Oh, yeah!"

Odd, It seems easily loud enough on my PX5's in BF4 with chat volume at half in the device settings for me. That's with game effects being quite loud too.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Oh wait, he's saying it again. And again... ;-)

Just seems to be a lot of background buzz. I've used the Sony headset, an Apple headset or just listening to others via my TV without a headset plugged in at all. Lots of crackle, buzzing and just general poor quality. More like 1970's cassette tape than CD.

With Live it's very easy to clearly hear up to 8 different talking at the same time, on PSN you struggle to hear even one person that sounds crystal clear. I have my PS4 connected via cable so no WiFi interference, could the buzz be picked from my and others bluetooth controller connection?

There's seems to be plenty of French and Germans chatting just not many UK folk. Very odd.

Found the quality to be excellent, personally.

Use party chat with my brother and it's been flawless.

    Hated, adored, never ignored.

Party chatting with 4 mates has given me no problems. I'm using some fairly decent Turtle Beaches and they're using a mixture of headsets and the camera.

Only played battlefield 4 but I've never heard a single person speak and I've clocked 12 hours this weekend?!

I have the PlayStation camera, should the speech be coming through my TV speakers?

Very weird to me coming from Xbox which is very vocal

Voices comms from my side should be great, I recently shaved off my giant beard that was causing the eponymous fuzz.

Alas, doing so also made some small woodland creatures homeless :(

I wonder if fewer gamers speak on Playstation than on Xbox because there are more Euro-gamers on Playstation meaning you're less likely to understand/be understood by other players so people simply don't bother? Xbox (360) = 'Mericuh! = English language.

There were plenty of french, germans, italians and spanish chatting on XBL over the years too. It never stopped anyone gabbing away.

So, I've now used group party chart and the quality is great. It just seems to be the in game chat in CoD that is pants. Interestingly Killzone doesn't even seem to support multiplayer in game chat . I wonder if these launch day games just ran out of time to optimise/implement the feature?

For BF4, I found I couldn't hear any one speaking until I went into settings and turned audio chat up to max. I'm using Astro A40's.

Anyone know how you turn the mic off on the camera if you don't want to use it?

Any news on a firmware update to enable bluetooth headsets? I'm happy with the Sony one I was using on the PS3

Act like a dumbshit and they will treat you as an equal
