BBC has key extracts and links here.

Love their ideas on childcare, truly. Absolutely no idea how they're going to pay for it though.

Get on with this so the population can say "no" and the government can concentrate on more important things than petty nationalism.

It's not going to happen. They can't afford to be independent.

The pro-Union Better Together campaign has said Scotland would be "safer" within the UK
    Safer from what, exactly?

It's an excellent opportunity to float some high-level policy ideas though, and well worth listening to them being thrashed out.

I wish they would hurry it up either way. The EU is waiting!

I doubt it will happen, but if it does it needs to be a clean break - no keeping the pound, an end to the BBC, not using us as a lender of last resort.

Salmond shouldn't be allowed to cherry pick.

If they leave we're keeping the Radiohead CD's and they can keep the tartan sofa we had to put up with.

Would love to see how Spain and France would react to a state separating from an EU member and rejoining.

Some how I don't think it's going to be that simple,  as it'll set a precedence.

Would Scotland even want to be part of the EU? It's not exactly healthy at the moment.

That white paper reads like a dream. Salmond just wants to declare himself king of the free land and he's talking out of his bumhole. Once big UK companies pull their business out of Scotland to keep it in the UK what have we got left to peddle exactly? Something that's going to eventually run out. Not a good start is it?

getting bored of this now. hopefully it will be finally resolved next year, one way or another, in or out.

I feel sorry for english people in scotland, the amount of blatant racism they have to put up with on a daily basis is a joke. Bet it is even worse for an english teenager in school or even a scottish one with an english accent.

While annomisity has always been there between both countries, the SNP has done nothing but fuel racism in scotland towards the english. This is a party that uses the film bravehart as gospel.

alex sammon is obsessed with a free scotland so he can act all in important and be head of a state of his own country. remember when he cried because he wasn't included in the UK PM debates, but why would he, he wasn't running for PM.

funny thing is, if scotland becomes independent, no world leader will give a shit about meeting him. No one rushes to meet irelands leaders, and the irish are content with that.

@xuiton Some of the responsibility falls with the Tories and  Labour who have done fuck all to counter the SNP.

Anyone that blanketly dismisses it most likely is.  The racism... well you mentioned that,  not I. Got something on your mind?

That's not too say it doesn't have issues and doesn't need  reforming.

I am actually amazed Scotland wants to secede from the Union. And more amazed the Union is letting them vote on it. Though Salmond is very telegenic and sounds convincing on the issue. This will rapidly speed up infrastructure as Scotland will need lots of it and will provide many jobs here too. However what we don't want is a Haiti/Domincan Republic situation. Two countries on the same island one rich, the other hopelessly poor. And Scotland would be very rich with the resources it has already, the landed aristocracy and the much lower populace but the purchasing power of the sterling would be decreased without those resources backing it.

@Lamb We've moved beyond plain resources. While important, wealth is generated in other ways today.

Yup. We'll be waiting a long time for this day I suspect.

I like how people automatically see you as a daily mail reader etc just because you don't agree with them. Ironic really.

It seems to me that offering free childcare for families where both (or one in single-parent set-ups) work full time (or 70 hours between them or something) is a bit of a no-brainer. I'm sure it would pay for itself and then some in taxes.

Fuck knows how they'd make that suggested system work though.
