Forum Awards 2013, Sponsored by Nobody|
Yes, it’s that time of the year again, the time to celebrate all the good people of the Eurogamer forum and their excellent exploits this year, the year that we passed the 10 million post mark. Well, maybe not good people, and maybe not excellent exploits, but there have definitely been people, and they’ve definitely been doing posts.
There will be no prizes again this year, because George Osbourne refused to give me tax relief to pay for them account of all my tax avoision . By all means stick it in your sig or make yourself a trophy if you win. I’m sure you’ll have earned it, or at least cared enough to rig the vote in your favour.
The categories will mostly be the same as last year, though I’ll also do the same optional Forum Game of the Year given EG haven’t so far. The one change is it’ll be PMed votes only, as it was a heck of a lot easier to count those late year, plus it keeps the winners a big surprise.
Without further ado, here are this years categories:
Forum Award Categories 2013
Nicest Forumite – Believe it or not, Eurogamer actually has some nice people about that doen’t want to put you or the things you like down just to get a rise out of you. Some people are lovely. Other people have the capacity to be lovely, which is good enough in my book So reward their niceness with a vote, why don’t you.
Funniest Forumite – Many lols can be found on Eurogamer, many of the intentional, and the rest of them because people are stupid and stubbornly refuse to update their knowledge, which leads to unintentional hilarity. They provide this comedy for free, so why not give them the ego boost they so desperately could do without.
Most Helpful – The person that has been, or has appeared to be, more consistently helpful than anyone else. I’ve seen tech, legal and dating tips all dispensed, so there are plenty of wise and helpful people about.
Best Forumite – There are some things that just don’t quite fit in with the above categories. They might not be nice or funny, but maybe there’s someone else who you enjoy the posts of. Maybe they’re informative and put their points across well, or maybe they most in review threads with sufficient perspicacity that they’ve steered you away from a terrible purchase into the arms of an excellent one.
Best Mod – The Mod team are some of the soundest you’ll see on any forum. Unlike what a certain poster in the 10 Million Posts thread on EG suggested, our lovely mods do not take action that “stifles any interesting conversations” and statements like “creating threads is looked down upon” are clear lies. Our Mods leave us to gibber pretty much all we like, as long as we don’t say or do anything that could get you arrested (strictly speaking). In those cases, you should thank them for helping you dodge prison time. They slap down the spam and join in with the hijinks and we love them for it. But who do we love the best?
Hot Air Award – For the person who can say so little, yet maanges to make epic, massive posts to do it. Possibly by paraphrasing Wikipedia a lot and refusing to get your point, or concede when you prove them wrong, only for them to post yet another wall of text. Me, trying to lead votes? Of course not, you’re paranoid.
Thread of the Year – The best thread of this year, or at least the best thread that has had some of its best posts submitted to it this year. I’m sure that the current one about FXAA is already in many of our hearts, but for those that don’t want to vote for that literary masterpiece, do let me know. For inspiration, the Post of the Day thread has some good posts. Check out those threads.
Trolliest Troll – I assume whoever wins this will actually want it, as trolling is almost a full time pursuit. Posting just the right amount of insult, condescension and half-facts to get a response from someone can be an artform. Is someone doing it right? Then let your vote show it.
Forum Game of the Year 2013
If you like, feel free to vote for up to 3 of your favourite games of this year. I do ask that you try to make sure they were out this year. Votes will be equally weighted, so put them in ay order, just don’t exceed 3. Thank you
