Better than the last one, but still sounds like everything else. Nothing since Still has really been that good from trent, it all just sounds like his take on popular music, where before that his albums were shockingly original and nothing else sounded like him.

New free album - The Slip.

This is just getting silly now. Another new album? And this time it's free?

I guess you can churn out as much as you like with very little risk when you do it this way.

    Is it any good?

Having a listen now... First track promisingly 'weird'...
  • Deleted user 5 May 2008 10:25:19
Second track has the drum beat from Get Your Rocks Off, a buzzy electric guitar lead and Trent shouty-singing some old guff and some more electronic noisiness, and a nice enough chorus sound. Nothing new here so far though.

    I should write for NME.

    Just listening to it now.

I'm on track 6 and to be frank it's pretty boring.

Lots of distorted synthy guitars, punchy drums... and really every track sounds like Hand that Feeds. Zzz.

That's exactly what I was going to say but I forgot the name of that track.

    But hey it's free.

    Downloading now.

This is simply awesome - Trent is sure making up for earlier long release gaps.

I'd rather pay for a copy of the Downward Spiral, or Fragile though than have this for free.

Still was his last great output. Broken to Still is some of the best music ever made.

Loving this new stuff, the last couple of NIN albums are my personal faves. I love the downward spiral but everything from With Teeth to now has been awesome.

I quite liked track 6.... the sliding bass in the background. Very nice.

I thought it was fairly boring. I'll give it another spin again later. I wasn't expecting much though, as I haven't been a fan of NIN since The Fragile. That and Broken are absolutely brilliant.

Sometimes I wish Trent would get back on the drugs, and become a recluse again so he can get back to making good music. But that'd be a bit selfish of me. ;)

It's not, though. Not really. Felt a bit like I'd heard it aaaaall before. :(

Well I quite liked it, its not a new music genre by any sense of the imagination but its still fecking great music.

I thought the album was awful. Just the same pop song over again, then a moody piano bit then done.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Ah well, he made some good albums in his time so I can forgive him. Who is in the band these days anyway? Last I heard he fired everyone again.

  • Deleted user 6 May 2008 10:08:42
NIN on autopilot is still better than 99% of the shit out there.

I liked it. I liked the sound and the style he was going for.

Probably an EPs worth of material there, but as a free album, its brilliant.

    ---------------------------------------------------------
    He totally called it

I've changed my mind about this. From track 5 onward, it's pretty good.

It's just the first couple of tracks that are crap.

It's better than With Teeth anyway.
