I'll give it a whirl, i just hope it's not just NiN with a girly voice. I prefer the discord and angst in Trent's singing to what i heard of that first video. Hopefully it'll grow on me after a few more listens.

Grabbed the EP and it is just NiN with a sultry breathy female voice. Not really that into it actually, even though I pretty much knew what it would be after listening to the tracks linmked to earlier in the thread. It's okay I guess but Trent's voice is considerably more enjoyable to listen to.

I've listened to the majority of the whole EP now and my opinion hasn't changed, sadly. All the NIN production values are there - it sounds exactly like NIN stuff in that respect, some very recognisable crunchiness and grittiness, very similar chords and instruments, a melancholy piano line bubbling under with electronic distortion, all that cool stuff.

But she's rubbish. When Trent sings you can feel it. She's just a girl singing stuff. It could be anyone. I mean Miley Cyrus (or any other bland female singer) could have decided to go Bad Girl and got Trent to make an album for her with carte blanche to do whatever he liked with her, and it would sound like this probably.

Bit of a shame really coz some of the music is quite good.

Just downloaded the ep and erm... why did you leave us Trent? ;)

Not sure I dig the girl (need more listens of course) and although it's more a reflection on my tastes/isms I've never really went overboard for female singers on rock n metal (or anything approaching those two genres). Sure, there's some great ones over the years that have floated my boat (L7, PJH etc) but in general I just think they tend to pass me by. Shame.

Good choice of female singers - both bands/women very identifiable voices and attitudes in their singing, that this girl doesn't even try to bring to the party. Pretty much every single lyric sounds wasted on her :(

    I MUST KNOW.

Oh hang on, that's what Google's for.

Hmm. They look like what the house band from Lazy Town (if indeed there was one) would look like after they'd hit their teenage years and decided to try and rebel, really badly.

    ;)

Yeah it's that distinctive/identifiable/attitude thing that seems to be the x-factor for me regarding lead singers in general (not just if they can sing) and so far Ms Reznor isn't really doing anything to mark herself out from the pack. Then again, I fear change and Trent/Nin is probably one of my favourite artists so I'm sure there's a bit of knee-jerk wahing on my part here :)

Yeah me too, I'm a huge fan of his voice so there's a massive gaping hole here for me. I don't think it's knee-jerk though - if it wasn't for the production I wouldn't have bothered listening to the end because the voice has nothing happening.

In fact if anything I'd like an accappella version, Ghosts style.

Oh yeah, the poor lass has to barge her way past my prejudices and love of Reznor, so fair dos to her that i haven't dismissed her out-of-hand out of blinkered fanboigasms for NiN :)

Listened to the EP on the way home from work today... It's OK I guess, it might grow on me though. Reminded me of Deftones a bit actually from when they went a bit "arty" and did stuff like Pink Cellphone.

    Mariqueen though - HELLO!

    Hawt.

Been listening to The Slip today. It's taken a while (two years innit?) but it's gotten under my skin at last.

She might be hot but she's got no soul when she sings. Having said that I'm on my 4th play-through and I'm getting into it, but it's a struggle. It's still the music I like most, not the vocal. Trent does crop up in the background on at least one of them, though.

I would like to hear her do more energetic vocals in the future though. I can see this style getting old quickly otherwise.

I really like the EP especially The Space Inbetween, Parasite and A Drowning. I like the vocals they're pretty much what I expected, it's different but still heavily NiN influenced.. Reminds me of other electronic/industrial bands with female vocals like Client, Ladytron, Waiting For God etc. All of which I like :)

I predict a really annoying teen goth album in 17 years ^^

Also I like the EP, a lot.

Congrats, trent! Still not too impressed by the new stuff though, too sugary and produced. Needs more edges and some discord.
