Her 2008 Macbook just died. She needs a Word equivalent (has been using Open Office) and to browse the Internet. It needs at least one USB slot and, ideally, to connect to an external monitor. SHe's getting on, so a 13-15" would nice too.|
Most of what she'll storing will be Word documents, excel files and PDF. Not really any videos or photos.
Any ideas? Maximum budget is £500, but I'd rather not spend that if possible.
My mum needs a laptop
£449 for a surprisingly decent between-budget-and-midrange notebook.
... here we go!
New Haswell internals too.

It's black Friday next week, my advice would be to wait until then. I'll keep you guessing about which day it lands on.

Chromebook would work wonders for her
Cheers for the other suggestions. I'll keep an eye on the Amazon sale too.
I think I've got a good idea now, so people don't have to look anymore. Thanks everyone.

I came in here expecting many "your mum" jokes.
You fucking disappoint me.
Do tell us which laptop your (or you, most likely) Mummy chose in the end please!

My mum needs a laptop.
YEAH SHE DOES!
Sorry about not responding before.
I suggested models, but she kept turning them down to save cash. In the end someone gave her an older macbook pro. The screen is temperamental, but it's hooked up to an external monitor.
I think she'll get a new laptop at some point, but she'll let me know when she's ready.
