    Not strictly Mac Pro but a question: how come apple are the only company that can make a decent trackpad?

    Yeah, it's actually this that prompted me to take a punt on a white, placky MacBook back in '06. On my third Apple laptop since and they've only got better. The glass trackpad that I first experienced on my late '08 Macbook Pro was the first time I actually started to prefer browsing with a trackpad over a mouse.

    I believe Microsoft have recently taken control of trackpad drivers, away from (typically) Synaptics et al, so it's entirely possible there may be some serious improvement incoming on the Windows side in the not too distant future.

    The trackpad on my 09 mbp is better than any fancy mouse I've used.

    Because they arent trying to keep costs down. Other companies could make one like it but they wont because they arent cheap to produce.

    My sony vaio trackpad is excellent.

    Having said that I've never used a MacBook.

    It's patent related too, I seem to recall reading Apple had a load of the good stuff sewn up.
