One thing that continually amazes me is how easily people forget what a mess D2 was originally before LOD came out and fixed its problems.

Over a decade of patches probably helped a tiny bit too.

It's not like D2 arrived in 1999 fully formed or anything.

It cleared up a lot of balance problems. I also seem to recall (it's a very long time ago now though) that the arrival of Act V and 2 new classes along with an increased level cap (I think?) and a tonne of new items also addressed what I seem to vaguely remember were complaints at the time that vanilla D2 was bit dull and lacking a spark to give enough interest to continue playing after clearing the story.

Like I said though, looooooong time ago. My main memory of my first playthrough of vanilla D2 for some reason is endless time spent wandering sewers in Act 2 hacking at weird spider/scorpion things.

LoD addded stuff from the seemingly blindingly obvious 'Repair All' button to Weapon swapping, which wasn't in the vanilla game. It also changed hirelings into the form we're more familair with in D3.

Wha tmos tpeople remember though other htan the two classes are the addition of charms and runes. especially runes!

Have been rocking merrily along with a demon hunter with some co-op mates.

Want to start with a Barb now. Will be soloing a lot with it.

Confused by the Easy, Normal, Hard and then Master options.

First time with a barbarian - any noob tips for me?

What level should I start at?

What should I look to focus on first (Dmg? Vit? Regen stuff)?

    Thanks for listening :D

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

    @TOOTR

Also armour/ weapons that give back health when you hit/kill enemies, health regen kits, items that deal damage to melee attackers. Then look at what's better for you weapon and shield combo, 2 handed weapon etc

Got some Barbarian items I can hand down to you. Want to max out my wizard first( level 53)

Hmm. I keep thinking I want to go back to D3. But I never get around to re-installing and updating.

This email just reminded me yet again.

We are writing tell you about an important change to Diablo III: we're going to be removing the gold and real-money auction house system from the game.

When we initially designed and implemented the auction house system, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But after much review and player feedback, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot.

We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the final shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process, but feel free to check out our blog post on the subject, and stay tuned to Diablo 3.com for further details.

Played through the demo earlier with my lad (to see if it's something we could happily co-op or not).

Came away thinking it was one of the most generous demos I've played in bloody ages. Took us over 3hrs to finish it (likely slow but hey ho we were having fun!).

Nailed on sale, really looking forward to it now.

    Good job Blizzard!

I just played it through with the wife. She loved it, and we put a lot of hours in. Best couch co op since Resi 5 for me.

    Good to hear :)

And yeah the demo is really generous, IIRC it takes you through about the first third of Act 1 (it's identical to the demo they released on the PC).

I think any progress you make in the demo is carried over to the full game as well, which is nice.

It finished after we beat the Skeleton King (3rd attempt). The longer we played I just kept assuming that it was going to end anytime soon....but it just kept going and going!

Glad to see that you can carry-over demo characters :D

Can't believe I have been so stupid :) level 56 wizard and have now just realised I can put any spell for any button, example always thought primarily weapon was button A now just found out by accident I can have primarily spell for any button so I can have all 4 primarily spells in my load out at the same time( same goes for the other skills, except armour which I think is one active at a time) Even more tactical options for me and different combos I can use:)

Enjoyed the demo. Like the importance of rolling around too. Not just for show, but quite important.

Crackers elective mode isn't default, changes the game almost entirely.

Don't feel so bad fletch, only recently did I realise I could access quick settings on my Vita by holding down the PS button and I'd had it since launch! I'd spent however long it was delving into manus altering brightness/flight mode etc, duh.

Definitely. I like the way you can leap across certain parts of the environment too, hate it when games artificially box you in as the engine can't handle it.

Try a frost wizard, that sort of build is awesome.

Loads of the most popular builds can be found online or on the Blizzard class subforums. There's some pretty interesting builds to be found there, including a lot you'll have never considered.

    @darkmorgado

Frost build is my current style. Spam the blizzard spell, rush in freeze nova, then the triple explosion spell plus normally use freeze armour that has a chance of freezing enemy melee attackers, freeze ray and passive skill for extra damage against frozen targets. Just want another source that looks like the tesseract in play and my Loki build is complete.

Also I thought sod it and salvaged all the rare items I have been hoarding, only keeping legendaries and craft items in the stash now

Try the meteor with the frost rune on it, works pretty well for me on the PC.

P.S - You'll soon start needing to salvage or sell those legendaries too - on inferno, one of the salvage items can only be obtained by breaking down level 60 legendaries :)

Level 58 wizard at the moment. Just finishing off Hell then onto Inferno. Don't have much time for gaming so this is great for short quick games. GTAV only gets a look in on my days off.

I haven't had a single legendary drop in almost 2 complete acts so Hell mode is proving to be a real slog at the moment. I was, like, getting shed loads of legendary drops earlier in the game so I'm feeling rather disgruntled at the moment. No new shiny makes me sad. :(

I just got Squirts necklace so magic find is up to +48 now.

    Is that good?
  • Deleted user 21 September 2013 19:07:50
I'm still loving this game. Feels I've been playing it loads but only got a witch doctor at 25 and a demon hunter at 35. I love the witch doctor. 3 passive zombie dogs, a gargantuan, I floaty acid spewing head, haunting, spiders, toads. I've had to pop it up to master ii in order to get a proper challenge.

Elective mode should be on by default. Means you can play the way you want.

Those stats are random. I have one of those with something like a +45% on it :D

A lot of the gear you come across will have it on it, and some Legendaries (like Squirt's Necklace), seem to remember Leoric's Signer has it too) are guaranteed to have it (though the amounts vary in how much it gives you - they don't have their stats or their values set in stone, for the most part). It's not just legendaries though, magics and rares will have it too. Just keep going, you'll get some decent stuff eventually. You don't particularly need to worry about magic find anyway until you've hit level 60 and you're on Inferno and earning Paragon Levels.

The stat cap for it is +300% (though you can get it higher through bonuses from coop and Master difficulties, and Nephalem Valor stacks), to give you an idea of how high yours is ;)

Plus doing co op matches will help, magic find, loot and gold finds are improved with each additional player. Then again in probably mentioning stuff you already know :(
