    Homeland.

    First season I enjoyed.

Second season failed to suspend my disbelief too many times and supporting characters were, in the main, shallow or annoying.

Ep2 Season 3 - enough already. No more.

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

I wont be bothering to watch any more The Walking Dead, first series was good, the second was so so and the third rubbish imo. I will not be bothering with the 4th.

The Walking dead has been going downhill from the very first episode. Itís been enjoyable in places but it clearly has some pretty weak writers who rely on characters doing stupid things constantly to create plot rather than having things develop in more believable ways.

    Justified.

I quite liked series one and the second series was even better because of a nasty family of villains. I felt tense yet eager to know what happens in each episode.

... was told by more than one person that it all goes downhill from there on, and that none of the current seasons features an interesting baddie(s) that are as good as those in the second season.

    Oh, and Prison Break.

AMAZING first season. The rest were terrible. They weren't even 'it's so bad, it's good' viewing.

Fuck the person who 'introduced' me to this awful series.

Tempted to give up Boardwalk Empire having just finishes season 3. Seems directionless tbh. Read in a review something I agree with - "It's the most ambitious show on television with the least to say"

What? You stopped watching, even though you liked it, because people told you that it the later seasons aren't quite as good?

They're not as good as the second season, but you should still keep going. It's not like a Dexter nosedive or anything - it's still quality stuff!

Definitely wrong to give up on Justified imo. Fantastic show.

As far as giving up on shows... Dexter is the only one that comes to mind.

Other shows I pretty much liked until the end (eg. Lost), or (in the case of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D) I'm willing to give it more of a chance than a couple of episodes.

Speaking of which, I liked the latest AoS. So yeah, I'll stick with it for the time being. I do have a high tolerance for less-than-stellar TV, though.

    Really, really?

... the very same friends who introduced me to Breaking Bad and The Wire as well as politely telling me not to bother with Lost, The Walking Dead and forget about Prison Break (whilst I was still watching series three)?

The walking dead got 8.2 in the ratings the other night in the US. That's phenomenal!

You should make your own decisions. If you like Justified (and you should; it's a great show) then keep watching it.

A merely 'good' episode of Justified is still better written than most other shows on TV.

Okay ... but are they right though, that the villains in season two are unmatched since?

I really (dis)liked them you see, which made for very compelling viewing!

    Broadwalk Empire:

Hotel TV is too dark so cannot see what is happening.

(TV settings all locked, including volume).

@CharlieStCloud Series 3 actually has a really good villain. It's only series 4 where they did not really have a main bad guy and until series 5 is shown we don't know that that is going to actually be a pattern.

They're different from the villains in S2. Not as good, no (unless you're a Deadwood fan), but still good.

And even if the villains aren't quite as good, the show is still full of great dialogue and appearances from a huge stable of quality character actors.

    The heck?

    ... I AM a Deadwood fan though!

    Is Al Swearengen the baddie?!

    Oh, bugger it.

I'll start watching season three when no-one hogs the television.

The S3 villain has nothing to do with Deadwood. But there are at least half a dozen actors who make appearances in both, not including Olyphant. Not Al Swearengen, though.

    At least, not yet!

The quality of TV these days puts many movies to shame. I love it.

    Oh, something else I've abandoned.

    Revenge

It wasn't really because I hated it or anything (although I did hate some things about it). It was more that, over time, I just... stopped. It wasn't grabbing me for some reason, and I haven't been back.

I've watched as far as episode 3 season 4 of Dexter and just gave up. It's been very good most of the time, but just can't be bothered with it right now.

About half way through Alcatraz and don't know if I want to carry on.

Season 4 of Dexter is the high point and the ending of that season in hindsight probably would have made a brilliant finale.

After season 4 the lead writer left, two staff writers from 24 took over and they proceeded to butcher it into an unholy mess.

Dexter - Stopped at the end of S4 (thank heavens)

Homeland - Stopped at the end of S1; never seen a show with such an unlike-able protagonist

NYPD Blue - When Jimmy Smits died!

I probably should've given up on Oz after the amazing first season but there were too many good characters - finally cut the cord at the end of S3. Though S2 of Justified was fantastic, it's still great after and better than 95% of the tat on TV.

I wonder how many of these shows people watch again once viewed - the only ones I've seen multiple times are The Wire and Twin Peaks (not counting sitcoms)

I think S4 is quite overrated - Dexter was never better after its' first season, imo.

Completely agree, I thought it had jumped the shark midway through season 2 and clung on til a few eps into season 3 before abandoning it and letting the missus carry on watching it for the latino soap parody that it was.

    :D

Everybody should just calm down a little bit and have a nice cup of tea.

A lot of hate for Dexter here. I started watching it six weeks ago and got through all eight seasons, finishing on Monday.

Yeah it takes a dip after season 4 (first, second and fourth seasons are superb TV) but I loved every second of it tbh.
