Inspired by the equally-named thread in another forum, but I think it was a very interesting thread.

Title says it all, really. Name a game you hate and openly acknowledge why it's actually great.

I shall contribute my own, but you first.

    DOA Xtreme Beach Vollyball.

Boob physics, swimsuits, audio that works just as well for porn.

    ICO.

If someone walks in on you trying not to fall asleep playing it, at least they'll think you're dead arty and hip.

Lemmings. It was one of the first games that attracted 'the non-gamers' (dads, and bosses in the their offices)

I hated the shit out of it though

    Call of Duty.

It does a good job of being the gaming equivalent of care in the community.

I think CoD does a pretty good job at being cinematic. I don't like that, but it does it pretty well, I think.

    Call of duty

Does actually have a really fun multilayer. But lack of dedicated servers and failure to update the engine let it go stale.

Easily fixable things to make it great again.

    Gears of War

Graphics, bromance, chainsaw thingy, gore. 3rd person shooting done reasonably well.

    Ugh

    Alan Wake

    Barry.

    Hotline Miami.

I hate it, I had no fun playing it. Doing the same sequence a hundred times because I didn't get the 1/100 second right to click, fucking shit game really.

But I love the style, I love the music... such a shame the game is so pants.

Curiously, I'm the exact inverse of this. I love the gameplay in itself, how it's much more of a puzzle game than a mindless action game, but the style makes me feel horribly unclean afterwards.

    Trials HD.

I have a sordid history with this bugger.

For the first month, I loathed it.

After 6 months I accepted it.

After 12 months I rule it.

Monty Mole and Leaderboard Golf can go do one, Trials is my number 1 bugbear.
