I was completely surprised by this. Thought it was just some meathead comedy.

It twice gave the disclaimer of it being a true story, but I didn't believe it until the very end, where it shows what I believe to be real life grizzly documents and photos.

Michael Bay, Mark Wahlberg and The Rock seems like a recepie for disaster, but it had a great result in the end. Bay said he'd been wanting to do the film for ages, and it is low budget (for him)

A definite case of true life stranger than fiction.

Monk is excellent in it, seems like a perfect fit, but I believe he was third choice.

A shout out has to go to the OST, which is fantastic and very renzor-esque in places.

Yeah, well I hope you don't let critics govern what you watch and don't watch... or the same with gaming.

I'm glad I tried it out. It's great when you get surprised.

For anyone else not as closed-minded as an amoeba, the film is actually very dark - underneath at least - which is what makes it so curious.

It's the real life story of Marc Schiller who gets kidnapped, tortured, robbed and murdered by a bunch of roid-headed bodybuilders - all brazenly wrapped up in a twisted comedy, of sorts, which is more authentic than you would dare believe.

It is a thought-provoking Bay film, although not in the classical sense - and you don't realise it until late on, but it should be enough to pique your curiosity... unless, you know, 'the critics said it was bad', durr.

Sounds like you've potentially just told me the whole plot, including possibly the ending, so now I have even less reason to see it.

So the mystery of 'who the hell is watching all these michael bay movies?' appears to have been answered.

He does inadvertently bring up quite a good point: its quite fashionable to bash critics and declare yourself to be a free thinker at the moment but, the truth is, the critical consensus is usually right and a decent indicator of whether something is worth playing/watching/listening to/eating/whatever.

The consenus: sheeple in action

I actually didn't know it was a Bay film till I read up on it after the film ended after it twigged that is was a true story.

It's usually right if you then watch the thing and agree with them aye. I'm sure we can all point to games/films/books/porn torrents that got bad reviews but we enjoyed.

You seem to be in a particularly mardy mood today though nick, stop picking on the new guys.

Film is a bit 'meh' but probably the best Bay has down in a long time. The worst thing about it iseally doesn't know what it wants to be with the film jumping between slapstick comedy and then trying to deliver a morale message. Worst of all though is the film somehow trying to make you feel sorry for these fucking idiots who murdered people.

I've not seen the film but, to be fair, the critical consensus isn't actually of the opinion that it's shite. Average would be fair.

I really enjoyed it one of the more fun films i have seen in a while even though it has a real dark undercurrent.

@captbirdseye Yes. you can say, at least, the film is interesting on some level.

Worst thing is, the folk slamming it probably have seen Transformers and all his CGI guff that he does... which are, ironically, more mindless than a story about roid-raging, iron-pumping bodybuilders :D

Which is fine, its an average film and it may well be average. I said that all of the reviews I had heard/read said it was awful.

Which raises a further point about people only taking opinions from sources they generally agree with.

My issue with Bay isn't with the content of his films. It's that he literally doesn't know where to point a camera.
