I see what you're saying but I guess they want to promote the Vita name and the fact it plays the games. I imagine they have a ten year plan for Vita, also, its called Playstation Vita TV and the PS logo all over it so its not entirely confusing, as I say though, they need to spend a lot of money advertising clearly and simply what this thing can do. I'd be advertising it as a streaming/androidy device that also plays someVita games.

In all honesty I don't see this doing that much for the Vita game sales, the 'casuals' will presumably browse the store and see 3 quid games, then FIFA on vita for 49.99 or whatever it is and skip it.

On the plus side, it'll encourage less touchscreen controls by developers. Uncharted would have been such a better game without the touch screen/6 axis/camera shite

Gyro was great in UCGA, and camera was used once, so it was hardly a fun-wrecker. Touch-screen, though, yeah.

If you count 'having to dick around after four steps on EVERY single tree trunk' as great then you're right!

Perhaps it's just that they need to position this very carefully, and make sure they get the CUSTOMER VALUE PROPOSITION bang on.

My main concern is that a lot of people are going to assume you need a Vita for this to have any use, whereas in fact it's almost the opposite.

Still don't see the appeal of this, personally. If it's supposed to be a cheap microconsole to compete with the likes of the Ouya, they really should have called it something better than PS Vita TV.

Playstation Bridge or Streamer or something.

I think the Wii U disaster is colouring opinions a bit although, having said that, it is the ultimate cautionary tale so perhaps they should have gone with something a bit more straightforward.

Perhaps they should have just called it a PS Vita. That's just what it is at the end of the day sans screen and inputs.

It's the PS4 streaming to another TV that really excites me. If it works it would be fantastic.

I still think the Vita itself was a naming fuck-up btw. PSP 2 would have been far more sensible.

@sport the logo could be a shimmering lake, with PSP floating above it. Reflected underneath it in the moonlit waves is 'P2P'. Then a humpback whale bursts through the frothy water in an orgasmic display of power, shaking diamond droplets all over the camera. A mighty lion roars, and the Playstation logo rolls onto the bottom of the screen.

If only the vita had a video encoder, it wouldn't need a vita built in and would be a lot easier to define what it was (and would be even cheaper).

PlayStation Connect or something like that.

It's a great idea, don't think I'm bothered about one no but if it's expanded to do PS3 streaming I could well be...

@Armoured_Bear - well, it's possible that you could use it to stream certain Remote-Play compatible games from your PS3 as the Vita already can. I guess it depends whether the hardware's the same across the Vita/Vita TV and whether the PS3 would see it as a regular Vita or could be updated to do it.

Incidentially, I assume the Vita TV will only display at streamed games at the Vita's native qHD resolution (960x544)...? I imagine the reduced resolution is what makes remote play from the PS4 a genuinely viable option (easier to encode and transmit).

This is the killer app, for me. If I can, effectively, put a PS4 on every TV for under 100, thats basically my mind made up for the next gen.

It seems to be, on the surface, absolute genius.
    This.

It has 1GB of onboard storage and slots for both Vita game cards and memory cards, plus USB and Ethernet ports along with 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 wireless capabilities.

Is it just me that can't quite work out where it's getting 1,300 games from? Unless there's a lot of games that aren't available through PSN, I swear that's significantly more games than I've seen available for the Vita.

I very much agree. I thought it was an add on for the Vita. They should have called it PSTV just like Ninty should have called the Wu the Wii 2 or something completely different.

I'm guessing they're including the amount of PS1 games available on the Japanese PSN. There are over 700 available iirc.

I am just purely guessing, but maybe there's a lot of PSone games, PSP games, PS minis, PS mobile and the compatible PS Vita games.

... PSone alone accounts for a hefty amount, hey?
