Yeah. Why wouldn't they be? Comics are for 45 year old nerds, not impressionable kids.

Wasn't Tony Stark a raging alcoholic in the comics? I've not read them myself but that's what I've heard.

They arent allowed to smoke, at least at marvel. It was one of wolverines trademarks but he had to give up his cigars.

I can think of quite a few Marvel characters that drink and/or smoke cigars, can't think of any that smoke cigarettes of the top of my head though.

Can't think of any DC ones though, even the villains.

    I don't think there's a single panel where Constantine isn't smoking.

    Get bent.

@StarchildHypocrethes Is sucking a dick similar to drinking and smoking in some way that I've missed? The next time my wife goes away for the weekend, should I be sucking on a bottle of whisky, a fine cigar and a meaty mentula?

I love that kids can pick up a comic where they can see a superhero mutilated, mauled, torn in half etc, but not one where they can smoke a cigar.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

I don't think there's any rules about it tbh. Marvel may have a policy but that's not the same thing.

I still recall the campaign from the late 70s where Superman beat up Nic O'Tine for trying to tempt kids with cigarettes.
He would be a terrible hypocrite if he then had a sneaky smoke.

Superman? Yeah. He's a hypocrite. No doubt about that. Beating up Nic O'Tine by day, knocking out these by night...

...pretty sure Wonderwoman and Batman are also part of the DC drugs mafia. Apparently it's only Clark Kent's influential position at the Daily Planet that's kept the story covered up...

This was the first thing I thought, and weirdly enough, it doesn't seem to be a part of the 50s version, although drug and alchohol abuse was added in later revisions

-Crimes shall never be presented in such a way as to create sympathy for the criminal, to promote distrust of the forces of law and justice, or to inspire others with a desire to imitate criminals.

-In every instance good shall triumph over evil and the criminal punished for his misdeeds.

-Nudity with meretricious purpose and salacious postures shall not be permitted in the advertising of any product; clothed figures shall never be presented in such a way as to be offensive or contrary to good taste or morals.
No werewolves in comics, but you could have Superman getting hopped up on goofballs probably untrue

He actually beats up Nic O'Tine to steal his cigarettes. As this evidence will show you, here he is punching Nic's jaw into dust.

Aaaaah, the smooth taste of a stolen cig.

Superman is teaching the kids a lesson by smoking every pack in front of them and blowing the smoke in their faces.
