The point is the journey not the destination! Enjoy the adventure. That said that because the systems are very consistent you will learn each time and get better. The jungle doesn't bother me much now but at first I lasted seconds.

Got the key to the tunnel man. Surprisingly it didn't take as many attempts as transporting the shotgun.
Now I just have to figure out how to beat Olmec.

@Roddy100 figuring out how is only half the battle. I still die when he does.....
I finally tried out the PS3 version and strangely, I VERY much prefer playing it on Vita. Just seems easier to control on Vita somehow, and more... elegant.
Still, the PS3 version will be handy for co-op sessions.

I have the xbla version of Spelunky, I just like popping into this thread to read how people new to it are getting along. Nice to see the game getting some attention again
I've played/died over a thousand times. 1,026 I think. And I'm still discovering little bits about the game I didn't know. And still haven't completed that damn journal!
Have any of you got the end of the temple and beaten the game yet? And if yes; have you attempted to reach Hell and complete the game 'the hard way'?
Dammit, I was bringing the key to the tunnel man, went to pick up a chick before exiting a level and forgot to lift the key up when leaving the level. Then I made it to the tunnel man without losing a heart. Fuck Sod's law.
Hello, I'm new to the forum and I registered here to ask a question about Spelunky on PS3.
I bought the game and I really like it!
But I have a thing I cannot understand so I'm asking it on this forum.
I have played many games and died many times.
When I go to leaderboards and select the tab "my score" (the middle one) I can't find me on the leaderboard; it is displaying the score starting from the first on ladder.
Is there a way to upload a score to the leaderboard or it is done automatically by the game when you die?
Thanks in advice!
@GanRob I think there's a bug with the leaderboards at the moment, apparently it'll be fixed in the next patch.
If they can somehow fix the slowdown too the game will be perfect on the Vita.

Got the key to the last jungle level then was killed... by the key. Couldn't help but laugh.

@santashi that's just so... Spelunky.
One of the main reasons I love the game, full of slapstick moments.
At the moment I'm trying to get to, and then reach the end of the secret Mothership area to no avail. Extremely hard to stay alive with the amount of stuff going on in that area sometimes.
Also, I can only remember coming across it a couple of times, but sometimes there's a jungle level with a different, retro-ey background music. Clearly hinting at something going in that level, but haven't worked out what - could that be the way to reach the blackmarket? Still haven't managed to find that area.

Yeah, definitely a lot of slapstick going on.
I'm beginning to think that music is random. I found the blackmarket once by chance. I don't know if there's a surefire way to find it.
Each stage has a selection of 3-4 tracks that randomly play, but sometimes a level will have unique background music to indicate something different in the level. For example - dark levels, graveyard levels, and in the ice caves, large yeti levels will have their own (jolly) music track.
Yes, I've put so many hours into the game that small details like that start to stand out...
Sorry, should have quoted in my reply. What I meant was 'I'm beginning to think that the retro jungle music crops up randomly'. Probably wrong, though, like you say. Just hearing the dark level music makes me think 'uh-oh' now!
The item from the chest in the mines starts to flash when it's near a secret exit.
I always wondered what it was for then it flashed crazy, I noticed it died down when I moved away from a certain point so I went back and threw some bombs down. It led to the black market.
I think there may be other secret areas.
Never had that item - found it by pure chance.
I hope they fix the leaderboard issue soon. I'm looking forward to seeing a few more of you on there.
I am teetering on the buy button for this, but I'm hesitating because I can't even complete the demo levels! What is the save system for this game? Is there an easier mode when you can restart each level, or do you always go back to the start of the 'world'? I take it completing a world gives you a quick link (tunnel) to that world, but can anyone be more specific?
This is one of those enjoyably hard games, but I'd like to make some progress!
@TheDarkKnight You'll always go back to the start of the game - no easy mode. The only concession is that you can unlock shortcuts to skip to later worlds, but those aren't particularly easy to unlock!
Basically, you'll need to put the time in to get the most out of the game, but it's always fun. If you're a fan of 2D platformers and like a challenge, I can't recommend it highly enough.
@Kay Ok, I thought it might be like that! So, I guess my next question is can you get/buy health? I'll have to see if I can just get through these levels then, and be a LOT more careful. How many levels per world are there?
Yeah, I love platformers. I am moving away from more traditional games of the now, FPS/open world games, back to the old school. PS Plus is a great place to start, and Humble Bundle of course. It is incredibly addictive, I can feel that. I may have to force myself to complete Stealth Inc first though, or I probably won't complete it ever!

@TheDarkKnight You can get more health as you go along, although it's rare that you have the chance to get more than one heart per level (and even that can be pretty much impossible on some!). Being careful and learning as you go is definitely sensible.
Four levels per world.
@santashi Thanks, ok, I can get through those levels if I'm a bit more cautious.

Finally! Managed to get the shortcut to the ice levels.
To ease my frustration can someone tell me what items I will need for the next shortcut?
@RyanDS 3x bombs, then 3x ropes, then... that golden key you find in the mines. I've had a couple of goes but not managed that last one yet! Usually some silly death stops me.

@Flying_Pig I had just seen that last night actually! Good guide, certainly gave me some pointers. I now pick up every rock and throwable object I can find, but aiming them correctly, that's another story!
Think I'm going to buy this later.
