Shame it's not April 1st, that would've been a good one.

sales of 2DS has shot up 64 per cent week-on-week. 2DS was comfortably the UK's best selling console last week, and that's without combining the sales of 3DS and 3DS XL

    The Nintendo magic.

Screw 3d. I bought one because it was cheap 100 quid with pokemon and after trying it out. The buttons are in the right place so it actually feels the most comfortable DS by far.

This thread isn't very positive reading, but now that the dust has settled... is this thing really that bad?

I still reckon it's fine and play my fisher-price mofo regularly. I thought I might upgrade to replay my games in 3d, but I'm really not bothered.

I might be able to get one for cheap. It is mostly for Phoenix Wright but I reckon I'll go for it if the deal happens. The hands on I've read are pretty good.

I think first impressions were generally quite negative, but most folk who bought one seem to be happy enough with it.

Ha I never actually read the start of this thread, but it's a bit of an over-reaction. I don't think the pictures of it does it much justice also, as in real life it looks better imo.

It's got a slightly toyish aesthetic, and feel, like the gamecube and controller a bit, but not cheap. It's sturdy as hell, like most Nintendo things. You can't fold it up obviously and put it in your pocket, but who really does that. I just chuck it in a bag in it's case. The case is not essential either, as opposed to what some have said - the previous gameboys managed fine without the clamshell effect.

It is what it is - a budget DS, and I still maintain it's the most comfortable portable I've had, with the buttons and the shoulder buttons where they are.

Phoenix Wright is on the ipad as well if you have one. It is cheaper, and I find it a better version.

I've just been forced by my wife to buy our kids one each for Christmas. Comes with SMB and MK7.

Any other recommendations for essential Games? Boys are 5 and 7.

Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon, Abimal Crossing, A Link between Worlds, Fantasy Life and StarFox are worth looking into!

@Raiko101 cheers. I've bought them a pair of 2DS machines from the Nintendo store. 130 with SMB2 and MK7 thrown in.

Not sure if I should have purchased them 3DS XLs, now. Any one have experience of both and can provide an objective run down of the differences?

@dai_bonehead I've not handled a 2DS, but for the age of your kids I would definitely have recommended 2DS over 3DS. To be honest, the 3D effect is a take it or leave it factor at present, if they do want to go for 3DS at a later point then the "New" 3DS/XL should be available by then and that, apparently, performs much, much better.

@dai_bonehead I tend to play with the 3D on for the most part, but it can easily strain the eyes on extended playing sessions. If you want control over that, the 2DS is definitely the way to go. No doubt they'll be a lot more comfortable to hold, too.

The 3DS XL is really for the obsessed player. One who's likely to get a lot of use out of it and likes the idea of a 3D display. However, with the exception of Super Mario 3D Land, the 3D effect never feels particularly useful. It just makes things nicer to look at.

The 3D effect is not good for young kids eyes, too, that's the main reason the 2ds was made wasn't it? So you shouldn't really be giving them 3ds anyway.

Nah, the 2DS was made because Nintendo have to pay out to a third party for the 3D technology for every 3DS sold after a court ruling.

In other news, my youngest has asked for a 2DS for Christmas and a copy of Mario 3D Land. I'm sure Santa will be happy to oblige.

The little gits can use their imaginations can't they (it works fine without 3d anyway).
