What are people's views on which ps1 games are worth playing today. Games that play exremely well despite dated graphics or games that basically have no equal on later systems.

I've replayed all of FFVII, VIII and IX recently and personally I think they're all still a dream to play, but know a few people thing VII in particular hasn't aged well.

Dino Crisis 1 and 2 and Grana are still excellent off the top of my head too.

Can't beat a bit of Gran Turismo /2

Edit: and the quality of the Crash Bandicoot games - including Crash Bash and Crash Team Racing shouldn't be forgotten.

    This man speaks the truth.

The only other game I still play once in a while for the PS1 is MGS but that's more because I love the story. Also, Point Blank 2 is still awesome :)

I still play Bishi Bashi Special, Medal of Honor & Panzer Front via the PSP.

Also Wipeout 2097 was never really bettered in my opinion, although it does look pretty rough.

Most of the old RPGs still hold up very well; Grandia, Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross, Alundra, Parasite Eve, Suikoden, Front Mission, and Symphony of the Night of course.

And most of them play very well on a PSP, too!

Edit: and how could I forget Parappa the Rapper and UmJammer Lammy!

Been replaying resident evil 2 & 3 very recently..both hold up really well.

Don't know if people know this already but the ps3 will play most ps1 game disks no problem. Something to do with the emulator they use to play the digital versions of the games on the store.

Well, if money/availability is no object:

    Tomba/Tombi and it's sequel
    Silent Bomber
Silent Hill - Kind of rough but the atmosphere is still extremely unsettling
    Cotton Original
    Panzer Bandit
    Front Mission 3
    Omega Boost
    etc.

I could easily post a list more than a hundred strong, the really nice thing about the PS1 is that the games mostly play at acceptable frame rates, versus retro sessions with the N64 where I soon realised that I can't play games at a sustained 12-15 fps anymore.

Apocalypse (starring the likeness of and 3 lines of dialogue from Bruce Willis) is a pretty fun twin-stick shooter with a decent industrial/rock soundtrack.

I still play it from time to time. It's aged remarkably well.

Kula World, Devil Dice, Front Mission 3, Final Fantasy Tactics, Vib Ribbon, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy IX, Vagrant Story...

There's loads that still stand up well. One of the things I love about PSN is that there's a huge library of PS1 games on it.

The fact that the PS3 plays PS1 discs helps too. A lot of the full-3D titles look more than a bit ropey these days and haven't dated well at all, but there's loads that are still brilliant fun to play these days.

Apart from the Colony Wars and Wing Commander games is there any 3D space games that are recommended on ps1 perhaps something japanese? Perhaps something on rails.

    Demolition Derby, Die Hard trilogy.

    You better watch out.

The lightgun game in Die Hard Trilogy was great, but the other 2 were pretty below-par, mainly due to how repetitive they are. Once you've played them for five minutes you've seen everything they have to offer really.

The lightgun game was ace though.

Imagine if the move controller worked for PS1 gun games.

Give yourself £5 or ½ gig, you're worth it.

Grandia is pretty good still, although I did get a bit bored with the samey dungeons. Probably more a fault of the genre than the particular game though

Wipeout 2097, ISS Pro Evolution, Silent Hill, Future Cop LAPD.

There's probably a few more but I can't remember them atm.
I'd love a remake of Blast Chamber as well.
