The itch that Shadow Complex scratched is back with a vengeance. Does anyone know of anything on the horizon?

Dust: An Elysian Tail is somewhat Metroidvaniaesque, providing you can take the cutes and the sword/magic-based rather than gun-based combat. I enjoyed that a whole bunch.

Please enjoy Metroid as an Xbox One exclusive in 2017.

But seriously, it sounds like Lords Of Shadow 2 might be the closest thing to a big budget Metroidvania for a while.

Outland is another good Metroidvania game if you haven't played it already.

I'll never get my Orc looking the same again.

Guacamelee just came out on Steam. I've not had a chance to play it but it's supposedly a pretty good metroidvania game.

I'd quite like to give Guacamelee a whirl but I suspect it won't run on my crappy laptop.

Outland is good, I liked that. Although it got too hard for me in the end and I never finished it. Bloody boss fights.

On the off-chance you have a 3DS and the Ambassador games, the GBA Kirby is actually a metroidvania style game. It took me totally by surprise as I was expecting your usual Kirby. Unlikely of course, but I'm saying just in case :)

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

There's quite a few indie games in development that could be categorised as a metroidvania, but can't think of anything in terms of retail releases.

The Arkham games can be described as Metroidvania due to their use of gear gating and a single world map instead of individual levels I guess. So... maybe Arkham Origins?

Zelda games share a similar structure as well.

Although it's definitely worth shelling out a few quid for Cave Story+, imho.

It's decent but does get rather repetitive and monotonous.

I finally killed Mogenar in Metroid Prime 3 last night, 6 years after starting the game.

Another year or two and my old wrists might not have been up to the job - as it is I expect to be able to predict rain 'in my bones' when the arthritis kicks in 30 years from now. I hope the Metroid Prime boss designers end up hunch-backed, with claws for hands.

Outland didn't work out so well for me. Insanely Twisted Planet was different but samey. Dark Matter and Rocket birds look interesting!

I'd forgotten about Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, I quite liked that. Not as Metroidvania as I originally hoped it would be, though.

What about dead light? (I've only played the demo but it seems Metroid like)

Nintendo seriously need to announce a Metroid on 3ds or wii u.

As Blerk mentioned, Dust: An Elysian Tale is a bit good if you can get past the talking animals.

On the subject of metroidvanias, Legend of Iya has been successful on Kickstarter. It's still a year away, but it does look bloody good. A (very early) demo has been released to try.

And another (successful) kickstarter I forgot about was A.N.N.E. Shame it didn't reach the Vita stretch goal.

The dev is accepting Paypal donations though, so even though the kickstarter is over the final total could still continue to climb throughout development.

With an Ouya version planned at $110k, I wonder if Ouya might donate money from some of their new games fund to this to get it there.

Whatever happened to Shadow Complex 2 did MS forget to give Epic their money hat or something?

@darkmorgado does the total on the main KS page increase then? I never realised but a $15 donation also guarantees you one of the following: WiiU/PSN or Ouya versions. Think I'll up my $10 donation, just in case!

Would people please try and avoid making "metroidvania" part of the lexicon, it's a terrible term. What next? I want something a bit baldursrim?

You are a factory of sadness.
