So they charge to list, take a commission on your sale, charge paypal fees (which they own) and now they're taking a percentage of your postage costs, what a bunch of cunts!

You probably got an email about it though you wouldn't know but it's in the small print, it's not like they create jobs or pay tax, they should never have been allowed to purchase gumtree.

I saw this - pretty disgusting really.

The crux of the problem is that they have no competition - they can do what they want when they want.

When a google or facebook enter the e-auction market you'll see the fees drop back down in a hurry.

Seriously? Fucking hell, they're skimming absolutely everything they can these days. How can they possibly justify that?

That's a disgrace, when I post stuff the postage fee I got usually doesn't cover it as it is.

Problem is I put my stuff on gumtree and it takes weeks to months to sell, if at all. On ebay it sells. Then I hate myself for using ebay when I get the monthly fee's email. I just give my furniture to Sue Ryder now, and they make a killing on it.

All the sellers do it, eBay must've thought where's our cut? It's almost Mafia-like.

With all the fees they charge now, you might as well not bother selling anything. They sting you at literally every step of the way - listing, posting photos, completing a sale, transferring money out of payapl to your account, and now bloody postage.

Is there anything left they don't charge sellers for?

At this rate they'll start charging buyers for purchasing too.

I had a nightmare over eBay fees before, ended up screaming 'NO!' at the top of my lungs, girlfriend asks what's wrong and I tell her that I'm never going on eBay again. I then immediately went back to sleep.

    But yeah, fuck eBay.

    @KayJay

    S.a.r.l?

    EDIT: Ah. Luxemboourg.

Anyone want to point this out to their MP?

IIRC, there's been some sort of multinational agreement to clamp down on this abuse of tax laws by moving profits overseas.

Hope it comes sooner rather than later.

Won't this help to stop people from undervaluing their items while charging ridiculous postage fees?

I remember trying to buy a 360 when it first came out and some were selling it for less than retail with the "buy it now" option, but then over $100 for shipping.

I think it's like Ltd in the UK.
But in other European states the corporate tax rate is next to nothing. So they all set up their HQ's in these low tax states and basically say they don't actually have any revenue in the UK so don't have to pay into our tax system.

Take a look at the likes of Amazon & Google they've all got the same.

As somebody else said, they don't have to justify it because they're pretty much the only game in town. They killed off the competition from places like Yahoo Auctions and QXL by buying Paypal.

Of course, there are places like Amazon Marketplace and PlayTrade, but they're hardly the same. A lot of people don't like to just set a price, especially if they're not sure what something's worth. Plus on those sites you'll usually just have some company with software set up to automatically undercut you seconds after you list your item.

/selling the last few bits of GW stuff before it hits

Certainly glad to be finished as a seller. The 'free' weekends have been fortunate, and photos have recently become free, but taking a cut of postage is ridiculous. I suppose it can only be a result of the numerous '99p and £8.00 postage' listings because sellers want £9 with minimal fees. Only have themselves to blame.

Between the RM increases that essentially flat-fared small parcels at £3 and the presumed privatisation looming, it's just going to get silly, with more folk incorporating all these fees into postage regardless.

    £1 DVD with £15.76 postage anyone ? :D

Amazon marketplace is a far better way to sell stuff anyway.

I know, amazon, etc etc, but in terms of charges, ease of use etc it's so much better than ebay.

Useless if you live in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn't trust a seller on there to deliver properly.
