At least it's fairly relevant to games and gaming, unlike "man hides marriage proposal on game cartridge", which is interesting in only the most left field and tedious human interest kind of way.

"The last XCOM game, Enemy Unknown, was a rousing success. EG-contributor Rich Stanton totally dug it, as he explained in his XCOM: Enemy Unknown review. The critical darling was then ported to iOS last month for £13.99."

I had no idea it was so cheap to port games onto iOS nowadays! o_O Maybe we could get a group of 14 of us to each put in £1 to get Dishonored onto iOS as well? :p

I sometimes wonder how long he's been awake and how sober he is when he writes some of these. A lot of them seem as though they were written after a few glasses of wine/beers and well past the witching hour when he's channel surfing. Then an alarm on his phone goes off, he bangs something out, and uploads it.

    Yeah, I just noticed hehe.

All of this was already known AGES ago, but he's presenting it as breaking news.

The Xbox One reputation system article.

He's just updated it after wrangling a statement out of MS about the weighting given to muting players, when it's information that was already known about and in the public domain.

Oh, didn't pay much attention to that one, it was gaming related.

According to his profile, he's written over 1500 news articles. All apparently in the last month.

I find Jeffrey's writing annoying and kind of endearing in equal measure. His style is a bit too bloggy for my tastes and some of the the stuff he writes about is tedious as fuck, but then I know he's there to fill a space and take the graveyard shift. His stuff definitely is not proof read before being published though, and he often makes strange errors.

Edit - one other thing; he blatantly trawls NeoGAF for news stories too. I find that annoying too.

He needs to stop using first person pronouns so much. At least do the industry standard of referring to yourself as a plural organization "us", "we", "he spoke to EG", etc, rather than "I SPOKE TO BLAH BLAH AND HE TOLD ME THAT BLAH BLAH, I WILL UPDATE YOU ALL IF I HEAR MORE". It just looks ridiculously unprofessional.

@meme I agree. In fact, I wrote a post exactly where yours is about the same niggle (I, I, I, me, me, me), but didn't click "Post" because I felt bad.

Besides, I'm up to a whopping six posts in this thread already!

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-02-assassins-creed-4s-modern-era-revealed

Based on these pictures, it appears that these sections are in first-person, but it's a bit hard to tell as it's possible they're just dev shots of the environment and that's why there's no consistent avatar with their back to the camera
So, you can't tell and they're probably just dev shots (the watermark on each photo might be a clue), but you're going to say it anyway.

And it's "slightly futuristic" despite not looking futuristic at all, at least not in comparison to the modern eras of every other game in the series.

It just seems like a very odd thing to say. All it needed was something like "Ubisoft has released 4 new shots of Assassin's Creed 4, showing the inside of Abstergo industries".

The problem is that now he knows he has a following he's going to try and cater his style to them. It's just going to be downhill from here.

"The futuristic cubicle with figurines of various Assassin's Creed characters is a cute touch, and it sounds like there won't be the only one."

    :champ:

Still, glad to hear that it sounds like it won't be the only cubicle.

This one seems to have condensed every Matulef Mistake™ into a single piece (except that it's not a stupidly-positive or pointless Kickstarter article). From Gamestop announcing that they'll be 'selling out of print "vintage" titles' (as opposed to 'selling out-of-print "vintage" titles'), through the apparently-unthesaurusable "whopping", a sprinkling of basic English mistakes, and the requisite I, I, I at the end (instead of "Eurogamer". It's almost as if he knows he could be fired at any second, and doesn't consider himself to be part of the staff).

And just to test his investigative journalism skills... "To put this in comparison, the cheapest used copies I can find for Xenoblade Chronicles and Metroid Prime Trilogy on Amazon US are $91.99 and $80 respectively, before shipping, and eBay's not any better. So in this regard, GameStop's prices are in line with the current market value" - well, I put "Metroid Prime Trilogy used" into Google and found it for US$29.99 (although it did involve going all the way down to the third result). Maybe he's got a copy on eBay and he's trying to inflate the price? :p Edit: although looking more closely, that does seem to be store pick-up only, and it's not available in New York (I don't know any other places in the US). Could it be... have I made a mistake?!? :o Well, at least this is only a forum post and not a front-page news article. :D

Anyone else find Matulef's joke on the That Dragon, Cancer interview to be pretty damn inapproporiate?

Context: It's a game created by the dev to explore the difficulties and emotions stemming from the real-life diagnosis of his son from cancer when he was a baby. It doesn't do this metaphorically, it tackles the subject head on and has the player take the role of the father trying to deal with the news.

So, it's pretty heavy, emotional stuff based on a real-life, tragic incident (it also looks very interesting, as an aside).

    Matulef's response?

To say he hopes someone makes a parody of the game called "That Double Dragon, Cancer".

"From Software's highly anticipated sadistic dark fantasy RPG, Dark Souls 2, will be receiving a closed beta on PS3 come 5th October on PS3."

    OK, but on what system?

I really wish he knew what a hyphen was. He actually used one the other day... wrongly. It throws off my reading as I translate from what he's written into what he means. "I quite liked that demo, though I wouldn't be opposed to seeing all new content either..." yes, I'd like to see ALL of the new content, too, but do you really think we'll see it all in the beta? Oh, wait... you just meant all-new content, didn't you.
