    I got a Moto G5 (Unlocked) yesterday. It's a very nice phone. A bit large but you don't get decent small phones anymore. It has an almost stock version of Android which is great. No bloatware or useless duplicate apps. Clean UI. It also has a fingerprint scanner which is useful.

    @funkstar

    That sounds ungainly.

    iPhone SE is decent and not too big.

    Hmm, that Moto G5 is tempting indeed, looks like a good phone allright and it's in a very decent price range. I've generally read very good things about both the G4 and G5.

    My old Samsung still works ok but it's several years old now and the screen is cracked. The latter is purely a cosmetic matter, everything is still perfectly functional, but still.
    The G5 is comparable in size apparently and I'm very happy with my current phone's size (I hate the really large ones)

    And sorry b0rk, but no Apple for me at least; I despise their extremely aggressive vendor locking strategy so I refuse to buy anything from them.

    Man this is confusing @_@

    Motorola (an American company) are now apparently a subsidiary of Lenovo (a Chinese company) and depending on your location their products are sold as either of these brands. Where I live it's all the latter.
    I first thought Lenovo was a shitty ripoff but they're actually the exact same products.

    Thank goodness for the internet.

    @JoeBlade

    Well ok, phone is real good tho but I don't know what a vendor locking strategy is tbh.

    @b0rk It means Apple has the nasty tendency of indirectly forcing you to buy products specifically from them only, whether it be digital devices, peripherals or accessories.

    I don't know how much this applies to their phones but a concrete example would be cables for the iMacs. Those things have bloody chips in them so you can only use Apple branded ones even though technically cables from other vendors could work just as well.

    It's a philosophy thing mind and it just doesn't sit well with me, YMMV obviously. And you'll never catch me stating Apple doesn't make good products either, they most definitely do.

    My M9 is having charging problems and has got a cracked screen, possibly because of me throwing it due to aforementioned charging problems.

    I'm on a budget at the moment so I'm looking for s mid range phone. I want a nice looking phone with a decent camera.

    So far the Xperia XA1 has caught my eye the most, has anyone had any experience with this device?

    I'm pretty committed to Android at this stage. All the smaller Android phones are shit sadly. I'll get used to the 5 inches.

    /That's what she said.
    /Phrasing!

    iPhone SE is 4 inches, so maybe that would be too small for you anyway.

    Sony Z3C has done me proud the last few years, possibly the best phone I've ever had (still a massive soft spot for the Desire).

    I won't need a new one for a while yet, but are there even any decent small Android phones on the horizon?

    I would have bought a G4 but it's 5.5 inches. I had an S3 Mini which was still enough for me except it was only Android 4.2.2 and some apps I love are 4.4 minimum. The G5 has 7.0 and the Moto version of Android is basically stock with one extra Moto app for motion stuff. It also has Apt-X if you have a compatible Bluetooth speaker or headset.

    There will be a new compact Sony towards the end of this year which will hopefully be a proper compact flagship unlike last year's X compact which was a rip off

    I caved and bought a Moto G5 too. Good phone this, much more responsive than my old Samsung. Pretty slick as well, and cheap to boot.

    Nothing really wrong with it just it is/was way overpriced for what you got. Not good value at all.

    @JoeBlade You are making me consider the LG G5 as the Surface Phone is taking forever to be announced.

    Good question. I'm waiting for the new Oneplus in the hope the 3T will drop.

    It sells for $350/whatever it is in Brexit dollars. Sure, on release it was a bit of a sham but it's excellent value these days. I feel like most people had a knee jerk reaction to the Snapdragon 650 after the previous compacts getting 8xx-series SOCs, but it's definitely a step up in speed and battery life from the previous compacts (like everything else about it).
